Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city located in
Peru near the city of Cusco. It was built in the mid
-1400’s but was abandoned later. In 1911, it was
found by Hiram Bingham,.
Chichen Itza
Located in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico,
Chichen Itza is a city that was the center for many
activities, such as trading goods. It flourished
from 800 to 1200 CE, and was a economic and
political central for many of the Mayans. The tem-
ples of Chichen Itza is most famous.
Petra
Petra is located in Jordan, and was the capital of the
Nabataean Empire. People speculate that it was
likely around in 9 BCE to 40 CE. There are advanced
water canals. There are great structures such as an
amphitheater that is carved from stone.
The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is a 5,500 mile long
wall that spans from the East China Sea to the
northern mountains of Beijing. It was started by
the Qin Dynasty to protect its newly established
state and it became an important line of de-
fense for future dynasties. The Great Wall has
been built for over 2,000 years and it continues
to be a main attraction for tourists.
The Colosseum
The Colosseum was built and completed under
the rule of Titus in 80 AD. It was used as a stage
for gladiators and public speakers for hundreds
of years. There are many trap doors and special
features that bring out the amazing architecture
of the Colosseum.
Taj Mahal
This white stone building was commissioned by the
Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for
his wife. The construction was completed between
the years 1632 and 1638 and was inspired by
multiple architectural styles from around the world.
It is surrounded by beautiful gardens with raised
walkways, flower beds that are sunken in, and a
large reflecting pool.
