 Subodh Gupta
• Subodh Gupta, a famous contemporary artist in India. His works are in multiple forms, such as
installation, sculpture, painting, acting, etc. The first job he got which had connection witch arts
was he joined one of the four small theatre groups which in Khagaul. He did five years actor and
drew the poster for the theatre at that time. After that, he went to the College of Art which in
Patna for study. At that time, he got a part-time job which is the newspaper designer and
illustrator. He got the BFA from his school at 1964; he got a permanent job by a newspaper, then
he tried to apply for a government-sun imitative scholarship. He was fortunate, he got the money
and got a place in the Garhi Studios.

• He is good to use the objects which we can always see in our daily life. He uses the thousands of
metal boxes, pans, bicycles to do his work. He makes the life in India clear to know by
international. Those works made he became famous. He want to give those objects a new
definition, let them become to the art. The Guardian called him 'the Damien Hirst of Delhi. He
thought he is the symbol of the cultural history.

• I thought his works are amazing by a mix many things together. So I try to add that way on my
building design which piles up a group of stuff to build the buildings.
 The Chun
椿
The Peach Blossom Spring is a famous story a which written by the Tao Yuanming. In the story, the main
character, a fisher who fall into an idyllic fantasy village by mistake. The fisher was shocked after he saws the
town. Because in his world, there was all the around the war and people’s life were very poor and full of pain. But
in this village, you can see people’s face all bring the smile which can make others felt happiness. They grew
many different vegetables and fruits and various trees and flowers. They also fed a lot of animals, such as caw,
sheep, chicken, etc. Also, they were very friendly and warm. The fisher invited by the villagers for meals and
drinks. He stayed there for a few days. Before he leaves, the head of the village said with him “please do not tell
anyone about us.” But he divulged to the emperor when he backed to his world. He brought the soldiers to find
the village by followed his mark, but they cannot find that village anymore. Until now, no one believes that
village is true just thought that just a story which Tao imagine. Actually, that village is true. Now, it called Chun
Town.

After the fisher left, the prophet of the village told the villagers the fisher would not save the secret for their, so
they changed the gate of the enter the town. That reason why the fisher and soldiers lost their way.

Those villagers are not the ordinary people; they are immortals, patron saints and the fairies who control the
harmony and different natural elements for the eastern world. Also, the village is not just an ordinary village, is
the place which they can monitor the balance of the eastern world.

The village called Chun Town because of 2 reasons. First one is the Chinese character “椿” is simple the longevity,
the villagers use that for an instant they will protect the natural harmony forever. Another reason is the
pronunciation of “Chun” also has another Chinese character, “春,” which means spring. The villagers also want
nature can keep the fresh like the new life which born in spring.
For the ordinary being’s, they can’t saw that village, they also can’t feel and touch it. Because the
immortals make the village invisible both in vision and physical. The only way that the ordinary
beings can see the village is they throw the gates, just like that fisher. Also, the immortals want to
go out they also need to pass the gate.

The Chun Town also developed with the time just like the normal world, and the immortals,
patron saints and the fairies also need to go to the surface world for disposing of the trouble. So,
there is not only one gate in the world. It has three entrances. To fit the modern world, they
always changed the gates’ look like. Now, they made the gates as a jam & honey shop, a
bookshop, and a bakery. They look like the normal shops that we can see in daily life. We also can
buy products from those shop, but we can’t go into their village. Not only that is their secret, but
also the owner of shops are the guards of the gate which keep focus for avoiding the ordinary
beings into their world by mistake. By the way, the Osmanthus honey which they sell is tasting
very good.

In the village, the outside of buildings all in traditional Chinese style. But they do not look likes
that much as conventional buildings like the Forbidden City. They are complex the modern and
traditional which makes the city full of vitality. But the buildings don’t look similar to each other.
Each house also has the logo of the element which they are management.

In the center of the city is a plaza. There has large statuary in the square which has the symbol of
the town. Every time the head of the town needs to announce importantly, he will collection
everyone to this plaza for the meeting. The other buildings are located around the plaza. When
you see the whole city from the sky, you will notice the city shape looks like a big hexagram.
In the village, there also has schools for teaching the young immortals, patron saints and fairies the skills of
how to their power and the basic knowledge of living. In the half of southern part of the city is a big forest
which full of the fruit trees and significant farmland for vegetables. They used the crops to make the
product which they can sell in the gates. The immortals who control are very good at the plant and cook,
the food which fisher eat were made by those immortals.

In the village, there also has many shops which look normal. Because the villagers also need ordinary life
like us. Every element all has at least ten villagers for management. They are working by the rotation, so in
their free time, they will do some leisure activities in different shops.

Their clothes are not like us. The clothes they wear was has a unique design style, which mixes the element
that they control and some points from the Han Chinese clothing. But when they go to the surface world.
They will change clothes like us by using the incantation.

Even others can’t saw the Chun town, they also create a border which around the city. The edge is
composing by the bamboo forest. That bamboo jungle also is the key which makes the whole city invisible.

If you have a chance to go into the village, please do not talk to the anyone the anything about the Chun
Town, even your family members, and your friends asking. Because that is the secret of the Chun Town.
