Bond types in masonry units
There are three types of bond in masonry units are recognized are :-

1- Structural bond

It refers to the method by which the individual units are tied together
so that the entire assembly acts integrally as a single structural unit.

2- Pattern bond

It refers to the pattern formed by the masonry units and the mortar
joints on the face of a wall.

3- Mortar bond

It refers to the adhesion of mortar to the masonry units or to


reinforcement.

Structural bond is obtained in three ways:-

1- Overlapping (interlocking )of the masonry units


2- Using of metal ties embedded in connecting joints
3- Adhesion of grout to adjacent wythe of masonry.

Structural bond types (Overlapping bond types) of brick


walls are:-

as in brick walls , the two most commonly used bonds are:-

1- The running bond


2- Stack bond

Concrete masonry units are available in many thicknesses in many


cases a variety of architectural effects can be obtained by a carefully
planned mixing of these units .

Concrete block can also be laid in diagonal and random pattern to


produce almost any architectural and visual effects .
