PRE-COMMISSIONING TO START-UP

The purpose of this document is to define the labeling process. The stages are:

I. Label Creation: All pipes in the facility will be labeled in accordance with ANSI/ASME A 13.1.
Each line will be labeled with the in service product, the direction of flow, and the P&ID line
number.

A. ANSI/ASME A 13.1 Guidance: Labels shall be located so that they are readily visible
to plant personnel from the point of normal approach (figure 1.0). The label colors
will be in compliance with ANSI/ASME A13.1-2007 Color chart (figure 2.0) Section
Pipe Marking Systems Meet ASME (ANSI) Size Recommendations. The A13.1-2007
standard also makes recommendations as to the size of letter height and length of
color field for various pipe diameters. These recommendations are shown in the
table (figure 3). Section markers, used properly with arrows and banding tape or
arrow tape, meet or exceed the standard.

B. Terminology: The following will designate what the process names and label names
will be; also will be the names for dual use lines in the same fashion. Process and
label names are as follows:

C. Local Guidance: Proper flow and direction of pipe must be verified to ensure the
proper arrow direction when creating labels. Directional arrows will be used to
define the current part of the process and are as follows.
a. Unprocessed product will be marked with ►
b. Processed product will be marked with »
c. Outbound product will be marked with .

II. Installation: The following steps will be used to install the labels.
A. Clean section of pipe where label is to be installed.
B. Test fit label.
C. Remove backing and affix the label to the pipe.
D. Verify that the label can be seen and clearly read from the direction of approach.
