1. INTRODUCTION

PT. ASAHIMAS CHEMICAL (AGC GROUP) Intends to Modification Vapor Line project at

plant Serang -Banten Indonesia.

The description of work project comprises of:

1) Modification Vapor Line Pipe Outlet of TW-2404 to Inlet Pipe HE-2410A/B

2. OBJECTIVE

The analysis shall ensure that the piping systems conform to applicable piping codes and

standards requirements, and equipment nozzle loads conform to the requirements of

equipment specifications.

Line numbers which are calculated are around equipment heat exchanger (HE-2410 A/B) to

equipment TW-2404, they are:

- 20”-PL-132-24-258-H27
- 10”-PL-132-24-297-H75
- 4”-PL-45-24-27-H65
- 6”-PL-348-24-1211-H65

Design Consideration in the pipe stress analysis and Load from piping system acting on load

equipment (Heat Exchanger, etc) comprises:

• Thermal expansion (Expansion stress)

• Dead weight, pressure (Sustained stress)

3. REFERENCES

This calculation has been performed based on all data and requirements on referred

documents as listed below:

5. METHODOLOGY

5.1 Software

The software program which is used for carrying out the stress calculations is CAESAR II

verion 5.10 developed by Coade Inc and the analysis uses the following coordinates:

X: South Y

Y: Up

Z: West
Z X

5.2 Friction Effects

Friction effects shall be included in the thermal expansion and contraction analysis for all

sizes lines and all sizes lines connected to strain and load sensitive equipment.

Friction force shall be calculated based on the properties of the sliding surface and contact

material. Table below shown static friction coefficients shall be used.

7. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

The following conclusions have been made from the result of the analyses:

1. For line number 20”-PL-132-24-258-H27; the maximum stresses is 185.6 MPa (57.2%

stress ratio) at node 150 which is meet the allowable criteria due to Expansion case.

2. The maximum displacement for line number 20”-PL-132-24-258-H27 is -8.993 mm to

horizontal direction (x-axis) at node 130 at operation load case L2 (OPE) = W+T1+P1.
3. For inlet line number 20”-PL-132-24-258-H27, in order to avoid thermal stress (for
expansion load case 6 (L6) and load case (L7), it is needed to change piping configuration
as seen attachment A. Caesar II Model or attachment G. Stress Isometric.

STRESS CALCULATION

4. For line number 10”-PL-132-24-297-H75; the maximum stresses is 236.5 MPa (70.5%

stress ratio) at node 140 which is meet the allowable criteria due to Expansion case.

5. The maximum displacement for line number 10”-PL-132-24-297-H75 is 14.269 mm to

horizontal direction (z-axis) at node 90 at operation load case L2 (OPE) = W+T1+P1.

6. For inlet line number 10”-PL-132-24-297-H75, in order to avoid thermal stress (for
expansion load case 6 (L6) and load case (L7), it is needed to change piping configuration
as seen attachment A. Caesar II Model or attachment G. Stress Isometric. And line
number 4”-PL-45-24-27-H65 is formed 45deg to header line 10”-PL-132-24-297-H75 in
order to avoid thermal expansion (load case expansion), as seen attachment A Caesar II
Model or attachment G. Stress Isometric.

7. For line number 6”-PL-348-24-1211-H65; the maximum stresses is 24.3 MPa (17.6%

stress ratio) at node 320 which is meet the allowable criteria due to Sustain case.

8. The maximum displacement for line number 6”-PL-348-24-1211-H65 is -10.034 mm to

horizontal direction (-z-axis) at node 130 at operation load case L2 (OPE) = W+T1+P1.

9. The Nozzle loads at HE-2410 and TW-2404 will be checked against allowable nozzle

loads from Vendor data by Contractor.

10. The maximum restraint loads shall be informed to civil groups.
