InTasc #7
InTasc standard 7 is defined as such: The teacher plans instruction that supports every
student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas,
curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the
community context. Essentially, this standard focuses on the importance of diligent planning.
Instructors who accurately apply InTasc standard 7 in their classrooms will develop lesson plans
that are considerate of objectives, content knowledge, pedagogy, cross-disciplines, and the
community. Specifically, an instructor with a expansive lesson plan on the text Night would
support every student and their knowledge by communicating with the History staff in order to
ensure that their curriculum is aligned with the concepts covered in Night. Ideally, English staff
would be able to align their lesson on this WWII memoir to the students’ lessons in their history
courses.
In my content area, the aspect of planning is crucial. Because English can be so abstract,
students often come up with valuable responses that may not be specifically aligned with what
was expected of the class. In an expansive lesson plan, instructors can detail expected responses
and desired evidence of understanding in order to determine what exactly they want to see from
their students in order to ensure that the students are retaining the information. In a classroom, a
diligently created lesson plan that accounts for a variety of student responses would manifest
itself in written, individualized responses. Backwards design has allowed me, in my content area,

as well as the status of the community, they can better develop a lesson that is personalized to the
classroom. When students are operating under an explicitly developed lesson plan, they are
guided in a manner that is organized and well-connected, while also refraining from being
