InTasc 4: Unit Plan – Artifact Reflection

This artifact is a completed unit plan titled “Character and their Contributions”. This unit

was developed through the completion of a guided Unit Overview provided in my SCED 357

course, Teaching English in Secondary Schools. This artifact was meant to showcase Learning

Targets that focused on writing, grammar and digital literacy. In developing this artifact, I

developed an in-depth schedule for the entirety of the unit, original assessments, modeling

activities and vocabulary integration.

InTasc 4: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of

the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the

discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content. This artifact

exemplifies my understanding and implementation of InTasc 4 through the development of

assessment that addresses thinking on levels 1-3. Additionally, this unit plan addresses the

accommodations required in a diverse learning environment. In mastering the content of

secondary education, I was able to draw connections between objectives, learning targets and

unit goals.

This artifact contributes to positive student learning because it addresses the needs of

students at every step of the learning process. In developing this unit, I acknowledged the needs

of students from both the level of developing a foundation to the level of contributing to existing

knowledge.
