 VIDEO RECORDINGS
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie’s
Bounce in medium tempo. Must include playing time for at least four choruses
behind a soloist and at least two choruses of drum solo.
2. A medium tempo selection or a ballad demonstrating ability to perform with
brushes.
3. Two additional selections in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos. Each selection
must include at least three choruses of playing time behind a soloist and at least two
choruses of trading fours, eights, and/or soloing.

 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Auditions are approximately 10 minutes in length. You will choose a first work and
the faculty will choose a second and possibly third work from repertoire you provide.
Undergraduates should provide three additional tunes, graduates ten. You should
also bring a typed list of your entire jazz repertoire. One copy is sufficient. Rhythm
section and amplifiers will be provided, but you must provide music for the rhythm
section. Drum set (without cymbals) will be provided for the auditions. You must
bring your own cymbals, drumsticks, and hi-hat clutch. You may provide your own
rhythm section players if you choose. Play-along recordings are not acceptable. A
basic theory test given prior to scheduled audition time (will take approximately 15
minutes).
You are required to bring three copies of music for each tune you prepare to
perform at your audition for the combo
-Demonstrate ability to improvise and play with a rhythm section at a graduate level
of advancement.
-Ten selections (including two ballads) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos
performed from memory
-Sight-reading

 ADMISSION RESULTS
Admissions results are available no later than April 1st.

 IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES


December 1 – Applications and prescreening materials (if required for your
instrument) are due. Once you submit your application, you will have access to a
Status Portal, where you can submit all supplemental materials.
January 4 – Prescreening results will be made available
February 1 – Transcripts, essays, and other supplemental documents are due to be
uploaded to your Status Portal; recommendation letters are due to be submitted by
your recommenders
February 1 – Individual audition dates and times are released
March 1 to March 8 (excluding March 2) – On-campus auditions are held; required
English Assessment exams and interviews are offered for all applicants whose first
language is not English
April 1 – Admission decisions are released
