Learning Objective:
• Students understand what adjectives are used for.
• Students increase their vocabulary by learning the meaning of various adjectives.
• Students learn to use adjectives to describe nouns.
Supplies:
• ‘Hairy, Scary, Ordinary: What Is an Adjective?’ by Brian P. Cleary
• Card stock in bright colors
• Crayons
• ‘Incredible Adjectives’ worksheet
Procedure:
1. Read out the story ‘Hairy, Scary, Ordinary’ to the students.
2. Ask the students to give examples of the nouns in the story and the adjectives used to
describe them.
3. Hand out the card stock to the students.
4. Have the students write their names at the top in crayon and then write five adjectives
to describe themselves below that.
5. Collect the cards to display on the wall.
6. Hand out the ‘Incredible Adjectives’ worksheet to the students.
7. Have the students choose a noun that they’d like to describe and write it in the center.
8. Have them write four adjectives to describe the noun in the space provided.
