Intelligent Damage Detection
Use Case

▪ Car is parked in a public area and another car causes

damage
▪ The driver from the other car leaves the scene

▪ Sensors glued to bumper or PDC brackets analyze vibrations

Sensor

(structure-borne sound)
▪ Sensors detect contact and classify damage from vibration signature
▪ A damage alarm message is forwarded to an ECU
Reaction

▪ An ECU evaluates the sensor alarm message

▪ The camera system takes a photo of what caused the damage
▪ A message is sent to the driver’s mobile, to the insurance company or to police

Smart Touch Detection
Use Case

▪ HMI: Turn any surface into an intuitive switch or control panel

▪ Safety: Window opening by knocking from the inside (child locked)
▪ Security: Use headlights or horn as indicator prior to alarm system

Sensor

Knock pattern recognition allows multiple switch functions

▪ Separation from inside / outside knocks
▪ Intelligent function alignment
Reaction

▪ Trigger ECU for autonomous driving

▪ Trigger ECU for actuation of windows / doors / trunk etc.
▪ Trigger ECU for headlights / horn

Adaptive Impact Detection
Use Case

▪ Autonomous Driving: Optical and ultrasonic sensors fail, e.g. due to a blind spot
▪ Assisted Parking: Driver disregards driving instructions or warnings
▪ Normal driving: Driver does not see an obstacle

Sensor

SHAKE sensors monitor the vibrations of front and rear bumper

▪ Bumper contacts are detected before severe damage occurs
▪ A message will be sent to an ECU
Reaction

▪ An ECU evaluates the sensor alarm message

▪ Brake system is triggered and car stops immediately
▪ Driver is alerted to check vehicle surroundings

▪ Autonomous driving: Remote analysis of mechanical vehicle functions
▪ C2X: Communication to repair shops via telematics

Sensor

Multiple usage of SHAKE sensors

▪ Spectral feature extraction in real-time
▪ Trained neuronal network for “normal state” and “fault state”
Reaction

▪ Adaptive vehicle performance alignment in autonomous driving

▪ Torque leveling to prevent damage
▪ Communication with repair shop to order spare parts in advance
