​ ​ ​Grade​ ​Select​ ​Chorus 


Rehearsal​ ​and​ ​Concert​ ​Directions 
Winter​ ​2017 
 
Monday,​ ​12/11​ ​–​ ​Select​ ​Chorus​ ​rehearsal​ ​at​ ​SHS,​ ​3:45-4:30 
 
Only​ ​7th​​ ​ ​grade​ ​chorus​ ​members​ ​who​ ​are​ ​also​ ​in​ ​Select​ ​Chorus​ ​should​ ​attend​ ​this​ ​rehearsal.​ ​ ​Students 
may​ ​take​ ​a​ ​first​ ​run​ ​bus​ ​from​ ​Henry​ ​James​ ​to​ ​SHS​ ​and​ ​wait​ ​in​ ​the​ ​auditorium​ ​while​ ​the​ ​8th​ ​ ​ ​grade 
chorus​ ​rehearses​ ​at​ ​2:30;​ ​or,​ ​students​ ​can​ ​go​ ​home​ ​and​ ​parents​ ​can​ ​drive​ ​them​ ​to​ ​SHS​ ​for​ ​rehearsal​ ​at 
3:45.​ ​ ​Please​ ​make​ ​the​ ​transportation​ ​arrangements​ ​that​ ​work​ ​best​ ​for​ ​you.​ ​ ​There​ ​will​ ​be​ ​no​ ​late​ ​bus 
transportation​ ​home.​ ​ ​Please​ ​arrange​ ​a​ ​ride​ ​home​ ​from​ ​SHS​ ​at​ ​4:30pm. 
 
Tuesday,​ ​12/12​ ​-​ ​7th​ ​Grade​ ​Chorus​ ​rehearsal​ ​at​ ​SHS,​ ​2:30-3:45: 
 
7th​ ​Grade​ ​chorus​ ​students​ ​will​ ​take​ ​a​ ​first-run​ ​bus​ ​from​ ​HJMS​ ​to​ ​SHS​ ​after​ ​school.​ ​ ​They​ ​will​ ​receive​ ​a 
bus​ ​pass​ ​during​ ​chorus​ ​the​ ​week​ ​before.​ ​We​ ​will​ ​rehearse​ ​on​ ​the​ ​risers​ ​from​ ​2:30-3:45.​ ​ ​Students​ ​can​ ​be 
picked​ ​up​ ​from​ ​SHS​ ​at​ ​3:45,​ ​or​ ​they​ ​may​ ​sign​ ​up​ ​to​ ​take​ ​the​ ​late​ ​bus​ ​home​ ​from​ ​SHS.​ ​ ​All​ ​students​ ​have 
access​ ​to​ ​late​ ​buses​ ​by​ ​signing​ ​up​ ​at​ ​HJMS​ ​during​ ​the​ ​school​ ​day.​ ​ ​All​ ​students​ ​should​ ​attend​ ​this 
rehearsal.​ ​Please​ ​make​ ​arrangements​ ​to​ ​work​ ​out​ ​after​ ​school​ ​conflicts​ ​so​ ​students​ ​can​ ​attend.   
 
Wednesday,​ ​12/13​ ​ ​-​ ​7th​ ​Grade​ ​Concert​ ​at​ ​SHS,​ ​6:45pm 
 
Arrival:​ ​ ​7th​ ​grade​ ​chorus​ ​students​ ​should​ ​arrive​ ​at​ ​6:15pm​ ​and​ ​gather​ ​in​ ​the​ ​SHS​ ​chorus​ ​room​ ​(boys) 
and​ ​band​ ​room​ ​(girls). 
 
Concert:​ ​ ​The​ ​concert​ ​will​ ​begin​ ​at​ ​6:45pm​.​ ​ ​The​ ​only​ ​performers​ ​in​ ​the​ ​concert​ ​will​ ​be​ ​7​th​​ ​grade​ ​chorus 
and​ ​Select​ ​Chorus,​ ​so​ ​the​ ​concert​ ​should​ ​be​ ​over​ ​around​ ​7:20pm.​ ​All​ ​7th​ ​ ​ ​Grade​ ​students​ ​are​ ​expected​ ​to 
stay​ ​for​ ​the​ ​entire​ ​concert,​ ​including​ ​the​ ​Select​ ​Chorus​ ​performance.​​ ​The​ ​8th​ ​ ​ ​grade​ ​concert​ ​will​ ​be​ ​held 
at​ ​8:00pm.​ ​ ​Students​ ​and​ ​families​ ​are​ ​welcome​ ​to​ ​stay​ ​for​ ​the​ ​8th​ ​ ​ ​grade​ ​concert,​ ​but​ ​it​ ​is​ ​not​ ​required. 
(Select​ ​Chorus​ ​students​ ​must​ ​stay​ ​to​ ​perform​ ​on​ ​the​ ​8th​ ​ ​ ​grade​ ​concert) 
 
Select​ ​Chorus:​​ ​ ​Please​ ​arrive​ ​at​ ​5:50​​ ​and​ ​report​ ​to​ ​the​ ​stage.​ ​ ​We​ ​will​ ​do​ ​a​ ​warm-up​ ​before​ ​the​ ​concert. 
 
Concert​ ​Attire 
 
Attire​ ​for​ ​all​ ​students​ ​is​ ​semi​ ​formal​ ​black​ ​and​ ​white​ ​clothing.​ ​Students​ ​should​ ​wear​ ​black​ ​on​ ​bottom 
and​ ​white​ ​or​ ​black​ ​on​ ​top.​ ​Ties​ ​are​ ​optional.  
 
Examples​ ​of​ ​appropriate​ ​attire​ ​include 
● Black​ ​dress​ ​with​ ​black​ ​tights 
● Black​ ​skirt​ ​and​ ​white​ ​blouse  
● Black​ ​pants,​ ​black​ ​shoes,​ ​white​ ​button​ ​down,​ ​and​ ​a​ ​tie 
● Black​ ​pants,​ ​ ​black​ ​shoes,​ ​and​ ​black​ ​polo​ ​shirts 
 
Additional​ ​notes: 
● Please​ ​do​ ​not​ ​wear​ ​jeans,​ ​sneakers,​ ​flip-flops,​ ​or​ ​mini-skirts. 
● Top​ ​may​ ​be​ ​short​ ​or​ ​long​ ​sleeved.​ ​Sleeveless​ ​tops​ ​are​ ​not​ ​permitted 
● Skirt​ ​or​ ​dress​ ​must​ ​be​ ​knee​ ​length​ ​or​ ​longer.   
● Attire​ ​should​ ​be​ ​in​ ​accordance​ ​with​ ​the​ ​Henry​ ​James​ ​dress​ ​code.​ ​ ​If​ ​there​ ​is​ ​any​ ​question​ ​of 
whether​ ​the​ ​attire​ ​meets​ ​dress​ ​code,​ ​please​ ​choose​ ​something​ ​else.

If​ ​you​ ​miss​ ​a​ ​performance.... 
 
Concert​ ​attendance​ ​is​ ​mandatory,​ ​with​ ​the​ ​only​ ​exceptions​ ​being​ ​family​ ​emergencies,​ ​illness,​ ​and 
religious​ ​holidays.​ ​Ordinary​ ​conflicts​ ​such​ ​as​ ​sports​ ​practice​ ​or​ ​dance​ ​rehearsals​ ​cannot​ ​be​ ​excused.​ ​As 
a​ ​general​ ​rule,​ ​performances​ ​take​ ​precedence​ ​over​ ​practices​ ​and​ ​rehearsals,​ ​and​ ​we​ ​have​ ​found​ ​coaches 
and​ ​other​ ​instructors​ ​to​ ​be​ ​very​ ​accommodating​ ​to​ ​students’​ ​schedules. 
 
Please​ ​let​ ​Mr.​ ​Stammen​ ​know​ ​in​ ​advance​ ​if​ ​you​ ​have​ ​to​ ​miss​ ​a​ ​concert​ ​by​ ​having​ ​a​ ​parent​ ​send​ ​an 
email​ ​to​ ​jstammen@simsbury.k12.ct.us​ ​.​ ​ ​If​ ​you​ ​are​ ​sick​ ​or​ ​have​ ​a​ ​last-minute​ ​emergency,​ ​please​ ​write 
or​ ​email​ ​as​ ​soon​ ​as​ ​you​ ​can. 
 
An​ ​unexcused​ ​concert​ ​absence​ ​will​ ​negatively​ ​affect​ ​a​ ​student’s​ ​grade.​ ​Students​ ​with​ ​unexcused 
concert​ ​absences​ ​will​ ​be​ ​permitted​ ​to​ ​complete​ ​a​ ​make-up​ ​assignment​ ​for​ ​partial​ ​credit.​ ​It​ ​is​ ​the 
student’s​ ​responsibility​ ​to​ ​schedule​ ​a​ ​time​ ​with​ ​Mr.​ ​Stammen​ ​or​ ​Mrs.​ ​Grant​ ​to​ ​complete​ ​the​ ​make-up 
assignment. 
 
 
CREC​ ​students​ ​and​ ​families: 
 
Contact​ ​Mr.​ ​Stammen​ ​if​ ​you​ ​need​ ​transportation​ ​to​ ​and​ ​from​ ​the​ ​concert.​ ​ ​There​ ​is​ ​a​ ​bus​ ​available,​ ​but 
must​ ​be​ ​arranged​ ​at​ ​least​ ​the​ ​week​ ​before​ ​the​ ​concert
