Immaculate Heart of Mary

Student/Parent Handbook

2015-2016

Requirements:

Membership requirements are designed to

ensure high quality and standards for our
school. Choristers will take pride in
developing a tradition of musical excellence
and commitment to good citizenship. Each
individual is an important part of the whole
group.

Rules of Conduct:

1. The school rules maintain their

importance during choir.

Questions and Comments:

Questions and comments related to the

music or the rehearsal are good. Anything
you don't understand needs to be made
clear. Ask your question by raising your hand
as soon as it comes to you.

Leaving the Classroom:

Leaving the room during rehearsal is a

safety risk. If you must use the bathroom.
Sign out. You may only leave the room once
during rehearsal.

Uniforms:
TBD

Attendance:

Attendance policies must be strictly

enforced. Attending regular rehearsals
encourages each chorister to develop a
sense of commitment and responsibility.
Regular attendance is expected and
necessary for all choristers.

Please let me know in advance if you will be

missing a rehearsal. We only have eleven

scheduled before our concert on December

15th.

NUMBER OF ABSENCES ALLOWED

There will be a total of three (3) excused
absences allowed. We have 11 total
rehearsals.

Emergency absences such as those due to

illness or death in the family will be
considered "excused." Please notify the
teacher prior to the absence if at all
possible and follow up with a note of
explanation at the earliest possible
convenience. Notes of explanation may be
given to Miss Ali.

A general guideline for typical Excused

absences:
a. Planned family
events/outings/vacations
b. Scheduled school
events/trips/breaks
c. Religious observations

Suspension in school or out of school count

as an unexcused absence.

Dismissal from Choir:

Students may be dismissed from choir for

the remainder of the year due to the
following:

1. Physical/verbal confrontation with

student or teacher
2. Use of inappropriate language
3. Destruction of materials/property
4. Repeated distracting behavior
including excessive talking or horsing
around.
5. Unexcused absences from choir

Choir will work on a strike system this year.

If a student receives three strikes in a
rehearsal they will be dismissed from choir
for the remainder of the year. Choir is a
privilege, and poor choices take away
opportunities from the rest of the group. A
dismissal notice will also be sent home with
your child that will require a signature.

Communications:

Choristers and their parents/guardians are

equally responsible for seeing that all notes,
newsletters, etc. are read. Any

communications concerning concerts, or

dismissals from choir will be sent home in
hard copy. Any concerns or questions please
contact me at the information listed below.

Please see attached page to sign up for

Remind. Students may also sign up for this.
I will send out reminders and information as
needed using my website and (primarily) this
program.
I am looking forward to a fabulous year with
your students in choir!

Dear Fourth-Eighth Grade Parents:

Welcome back to another exciting school year here at Immaculate Heart of Mary! This year
your child has the opportunity to be a part of the school choir. Rehearsals for choir this year
are every Monday from 3-4pm beginning October 4 th. This may be a change from last year.
Students involved in choir this year are expected to participate in the Christmas concert on
December 15th.
There may also be additional opportunities for the choir to perform in the spring time. More
information on post-Christmas events to come.

There is no charge be to a part of the choir. All students grades 4-8 are welcome to participate
in Concert Choir. Students and parents will sign a contract on the last page of the handbook
stating that they will attend rehearsal, or come with a signed parent note stating why they will
not be attending rehearsal that day. If a student misses more than 3 rehearsals they will be
removed from the choir. Being part of the choir is a great team experience, and students must
attend rehearsal regularly to be an invaluable member of the team!
Form and attached signed contract is due to your teacher no later than October 4 th. This is
also the 1st choir rehearsal.
Students are encouraged to bring a small healthy snack and a bottle of water to rehearsal.

This year an auditioned choir will also take place for our 6 th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
This will be a smaller group of students. Not all who audition will be asked to join, but all
students may still participate in Concert Choir and all members of the auditioned choir will
participate in the Concert Choir. Auditions will be held on Monday, September 21 st leading up to
our first rehearsal. A sign up sheet will be placed outside of the studio. You may pick a
slot/time. Auditions will be held in Miss Alis room. When your childs audition is finished,
(Ten minutes or so.) you may pick up your child at the back Pre-k entrance on Westin Ave.
Students: This means you must communicate with your parents when your audition time is!
I will also take a picture of the sheet and send it out using Remind(more on this is in the
attached handbook).
Rehearsals for the Auditioned choir will be held every other Monday as an extension of Concert
Choir. You must do Concert choir in order to be in the Auditioned choir. Attached is a Calendar.
Also attached is the audition form. Filling out this form means both student and parent agree
to the terms above.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me at the information below!
Sincerely,
Ali Hauger
