Entry 2.

1- Content Development
The candidate understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or
she teaches and creates content-specific learning and literacy experiences that make the discipline
accessible and relevant to assure mastery of the content.

Each discipline has its own unique experiences and objectives. The teacher of each specific
content area should be well-versed in that content and able to instruct others on it. Being a music teacher,
teachers in this content area should demonstrate a high level of musical knowledge and achievement.
They should understand music theory, history, and performance practice. The teacher, being taught past
the secondary level, should also be able to package their content information in a way that can be
understood by students who aren’t at the same level as the instructor themselves. This includes
understanding their classroom’s zone of proximal development, creating learning objectives within that
zone, and being able to assess and adjust instruction based on the students. The teacher should be flexible
and have many tools toward success that can be used in the event that the planned lesson plan is not as
effective as they hoped it would be.
