BALLASTING/ DEBALLASTING

1 Ballasting / Deballasting plan & acknowledge by all concerned

2 Check ballast water surface for possibility of any oil contamination & collect necessary
sample prior deballasting & record in deck log book

3 Ballast pump ready for use

4 Set lines in pump room and on deck

5 Communication link between deck/control room is set up and working properly

6 Emergency shut down procedures are discussed and agreed with all personnel involved

7 Tank's pressure under control

8 All accommodation doors and opening are closed

9 Enforcement of no smoking regulations & use of no naked lights are effectively announced

10 Shut off gas sampling system


(BEFORE BALLASTING)
11 Start ballast pump at low R.P.M

12 Open sea chest valve (BALLASTING) and overboard discharge valve (DEBALLASTING)

13 Slowly increase R.P.M to required R.P.M

14 Keep trim and list under control & limited to instruction

15 ODME is in use and working while deballasting (in case of emergency while using C.O.P)

16 Vessel's over side frequently checked for traces of oil

17 Close all related pump room & deck valves after ballasting / deballasting operation. Including
sea chest and over board valves.

18 Oil record book entries completed

19 Switch on gas sampling system after completion of deballasting

20 Consult approved water ballast management plan for proper procedure

21 Appropriate ballast / deballast forms (CZ 323 & CZ 324) to be completed & kept as record.
