Q3. (a) Explain the methods of equalizing Potential Distribution in a string of insulator .
(b) For a string insulator with four discs, the capacitance of disc is 10 times the
capacitance between pin and earth. Calculate the voltage across each disc when used on a
66 KV line. Also calculate the string efficiency.

Q4. (a) Derive the expression of Sag with the effect of ice and wind loading.
(b) A transmission line conductor crossing a river is supported from two towers at
heights of 30 m and 80 m above the water level. The horizontal distance between the
towers is 450 m. If the tension in the conductor is 1500 kg and weight of conductor is 1.4
kg/m length, find the minimum clearance of the conductor and water and clearance mid-
way between the supports.

Que5 (a) Explain Capacitance and Intersheath grading of cables.

(b) A 66 kV, 3 phase system uses a single core cable of conductor diameter 2 cm
and lead sheath of diameter 5.3 cm. Two intersheaths of diameter 3.1cm and 4.2 cm are
introduced between the core and lead sheath. If the maximum stress in the layers is the
same, find the voltages on intersheaths

Que6 a) Derive the expression for Critical Disruptive Voltage and Corona Loss.
b) A 3-Phase, 220 kV, 50Hz transmission line consists of 30 mm diameter conductor
spaced 2.5 m apart in the form of an equilateral triangle. If the temperature is 38° C and
atmospheric pressure is 76 cm, calculate the corona loss per km of the line.
Assume the irregulatory factor is 0.83.

Que7 a) Explain various methods of neural grounding.


b) A single phase overhead line is transmitting 1200 kW power to a factory at 11 kV
and 0.8 power factor lagging. The total resistance and reactance of the line are 3Ω and
4.5Ω respectively.
Determine:
(1) The voltage at the sending end (2) The sending and power factor
(3) Percent Regulation (4) Transmission Efficiency

Que8 a) derive the expression for inductance of unsymmetrical spaced three phase line.
b) Determine the ABCD constants for long transmission line.
