CUT THE CARBS - LOSE THE WEIGHT

THE SLIMMING EFFECT OF MULBERRY LEAVES

If you want to lose weight you

should focus on lowering insulin
levels. Insulin is a fat promoting
hormone, that takes sugar from
the blood and stores it, mainly as
fat. It even stops the body from
burning its own fat. So the more
insulin you produce, the fatter
you will likely be.
So how do we lower insulin?
Getting sufficient sleep helps.
Eating less protein (especially
beef and fish) also lowers insu-
lin. But most importantly, eat less
processed carbs!

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging that consumers
sustained economic losses because they purchased or leased vehicles from Ford Motor
Company containing allegedly defective airbags manufactured by Takata Corporation
and its affiliates. The Settlement includes certain vehicles made by Ford (the “Subject

If you have already received a separate recall notice for your Ford vehicle and
have not yet had your Takata airbag repaired, you should do so as soon as possible.
When recalled Takata airbags deploy, they may spray metal debris toward vehicle
occupants and may cause serious injury. However, many Ford vehicles affected by this
settlement have not been recalled. Please see www.AirBagRecall.com for further details
about whether your vehicle is recalled and, if so, what you should do.
Am I included in the proposed Settlement? The Settlement includes the following

whole family involved in creating
bright and cheerful Christmas scenes
throughout their Southport, CT, home.
Using pom-poms, yarn, ribbon, and
felt, the author of the crafty blog At
Charlotte’s House makes easy, do-it-
yourself holiday decorations with her
kids—Eleanor, Oliver, Martha, Louisa,
and Arthur. Gathering in the kitchen, where she turned
a narrow pantry into an art-supply closet and coated
a thrift store dining table in durable Maxx Gloss paint,
they make new ornaments and garlands to add to those
from previous years. “A lot of my decorations are thrifted
or sale fi nds that we put our own touches on. I stock up
on great deals in a broad color palette to make each
year easier, and I blend the old and new decorations
together,” she says. Instead of traditional holiday colors,
Charlotte uses her home’s palette of pink, green, and
blue. “If you look at vintage Christmas decorations, you’ll
see they don’t have to be the traditional red and green.
There are blues, lighter greens, and pinks, and they can
work with what you already have,” she says.

That’s why she’s just

there’s not a lot of time or
room for error,” says Zoë,

desserts she created for

hard-to-master skills or obscure ingredients and can
be made in part or entirely in advance. In other words,
“even a beginner can pull them of,” Zoë says. “But they’ll
look like you’ve been baking all day.”

Alison and Jef
Allen sent Santa
a change-of-
address card
this year. The
couple and their two kids
are spending Christmas
at their home away from
home, an A-frame cabin in
Wisconsin. There’s never an
itinerary, but there’s always
something going on. During
the countdown to Christmas
morning, they’ll cut a tree
at a nearby farm, Alison’s
parents and brother’s family
will arrive, and they’ll spend
plenty of time sledding,
snowshoeing, and sitting
around a fire.
You might think Alison,
the organizer for this holiday
away, would be sweating the
details. Hardly. The creator
of the DIY-centric blog Deuce
Cities Henhouse stays as
chill as the craft cocktails
she has icing in the snow.
It helps that she’s a
planner. Days before they
depart their Minneapolis
home, she gathers party gear
and decorations into bins and
premakes a few provisions
so all that’s left is a stop at
the local grocery.
She keeps her focus on
what’s most important to
her crew: morning cofee,
good music (Jef is in a band),
and making Christmas
memories for the kids—
matching pj’s included.
They all help trim the tree
and wrap garland around
the banister. And once the
bufalo-check stockings
are hung from the mantel,
it’s officially Christmas.

Take a trip to Santa’s workshop—no sleigh required—where everything is kid-approved and kid-friendly.
The minimalist raw-wood dowel tree looks sophisticated enough to display anywhere, but teeny-tiny teddy
bears and tactile ornaments make it feel at home in a kid’s room or play space. The toy bin (or floor)
is the place to start; small misfit toys and trinkets make great tree decor. DIY trimmings like the felt stockings
and yarn-wrapped ornaments will give the tree just enough uniformity. Craft them as a family—everyone
knows Santa needs his elves. Wrap it up with a chunky knit scarf as the tree skirt.
