INNOVATION IN OFFSHORE WIND STRUCTURES

The idea behind the WindSea project was to create a solution that allowed for a more efficient wind turbine park, without

Offshore blade maintenance is a difficult task in a challenging environment. However, our expert knowledge and state-of-the-

APPROACHING TOUCHDOWN
Large jack-up vessels are widely used for installation of offshore wind parks as they are capable of working in harsh weather
conditions.

Harsh weather introduces particular chal-

lenges which can increase risks because
the weather windows for the operations
become narrower. As a consequence,
dependable dynamic positioning (DP)
performance is necessary during the ap-
proach, touchdown and soft pinning.
This, again, requires both training in a
given operation and the ability to verify
the feasibility of it.

Train the risk down

To support the need for training and veri-
fication, we have developed an advanced
simulation model including jack-up
functionality and interfaces enabling
integration of DP systems. This offers
crews on jack-up vessels the op-
portunity to train the challenging
operation before performing it in
real life.

Self-propelled lift vessels provide a very efficient and cost-effective installation of offshore wind farms. However, the loads on
