Three businessmen detained for attempted bribery in Kluang.

KLUANG: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three businessmen for
attempting to bribe a municipal council enforcement officer here.

MACC arrested the three suspects, aged between 40 and 60, at its Kluang branch office here on Sunday
(Nov 18) at around 8pm to assist with investigations.

They are alleged to have given RM1,500 in cash to a Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) enforcement
officer as an inducement not to take action against them.

The suspects had allegedly committed an offence under the Local Government Act 1976 under the
offences of the Licensing, Business Trades, and Industry 2017 by-laws for which they can be
compounded up to RM1,000 for every offence committed.

MACC is investigating the case under Section 17(b) of the MACC 2009 Act, which carries a fine of five
times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000 or whichever is higher, and imprisonment not more than 20
years upon conviction.
When contacted Monday (Nov 19), state MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the case but
declined to elaborate further on the matter as it was still being investigated.
