CONFIGURATION OF M2 BIS FIELD SEPARATOR

There are several possibilities of configuration of M2 BIS Separator. From

this we can expect and choose which one is the best from these several
configurations.
1. FORCE / Normal operation.
2. SEMI FLOATING (only one LP separator (V-250 or V-110) is on operation).
3. SEMI FLOATING (both LP separator (V-250 & V-110) are on operation).
4. FULL FLOATING (both LP separator (V-250 & V-110) are in stopped condition).

1. FORCE.

This is the condition where the configuration is commonly used in normal operation, the
inlet flow which originated from oil producer wells of M1S, M1N and M1E flow through
the inlet header and then into the LP separator V-110 & V-250 which separated into
three phase gas, oil and water. Gas phase flows via 10” gas outlet and than it is
collected to 16” gas collector, oil phase flows via 12” oil outlet for V-250 & 10” oil outlet
for V-110 & water phase flows out through 6” water line and then all of these fluids will
be routed to CPA process. Fluid which originated from M2N and M2S are routed via 12”
straight to CPA, this configuration is applied due to limitation of field separator capacity
( refer to liquid phase ).
Keep it in mind that the incoming flow from 12” LP oil line from HH is now diverted in to
LP separators, so its mean that now the fluid flow from M2N area which are divided by
two line 12” LP oil line from HH and 12” LP oil line from HP is parallel between CPA
process and field LP separators.
The advantages of this configuration are:
o Act as initial separation which results into better separation at CPA.
o Reduce process upsets by having more stabilized flow.
o An early comparison data of how much gas flows from M1 and M2 area before it
flows to CPA and also how much water flows from LP separators to CPA API
via FPR 251.
o To get better water outlet quality especially at CPA API by having an early
separation at field which this will affect to better disposal.
o It can reduce or possibly restrain sand, debris & other foreign objects if any,
from wells from coming in to CPA Process plant by having it contained inside
field separator during early separation.
2. SEMI FLOATING (only one LP separator (V-250 or V-110) is on operation).

This configuration is used when one of the LP separator is off service mainly if one of
the separator shut down & there are problems prior to start floating valve must be
opened so that the flow will be routed parallel, one of the on service separator & other
straight to CPA process. This configuration is often used also when we have an
inspection job to be done & we have to stop the separator.
This configuration has some disadvantage:
o Initial separation will be less good compare to when it’s on FORCE
configuration due to some partial of the flow is routed to field separator V-250 or
V-110 and another partial straight to CPA process.
o The flow will be less stabile & might impact the process at CPA ( can creates
some offsets ).
o Data for the gas from incoming line can only be recorded by one of the
separator which is the one that is on service.
o The quality of water outlet will be less clean due to only one separator on
service.
o It can increase the possibility of sand, debris & other foreign particles to be
carried over to CPA process.
3. SEMI FLOATING (both LP separators (V-250 & V-110) are in operation).

This configuration can be applied if there is demand from CPA process or there is a
repairing job on API or the pressure of both LP separator is too high which can occurs
during special condition for example reroute MP line from M1N or M1S to LP line due to
repairing job on MP gathering line. This will result a significantly increasing pressure to
MP line due to the flow is diverted to LP line. And also if we want to perform an ESD
real test simulation.

This type of configuration also has some setbacks which can create several problems:
o Even though both LP separators are online but because of the splitting to CPA
process it is considered the flow will tend to flow straight to CPA rather then to
enter to LP separator which will affect the separation process.
o By having some of the flow is routed directly to CPA it could have less stabile
flow compare to FORCE configuration.
o The water content will be less good due to most of the flow is directly to CPA.
o Carried over debris, sand and other foreign particles will still be hard to restrain.

By examining the several results as mentioned above, we can take a conclusion that
the best configuration for M2 BIS is at FORCE configuration by considering the
advantages that are given by choosing this type of configuration.
4. FULL FLOATING (both LP separators (V-250 & V-110) are in stopped
condition).

This configuration will be applied when both separator are off service or stopped or
shutdown. Basically the separators are bypassed and the flow is routed directly to CPA
process. This happen when the separator can not be started immediately due to some
problems that might occurs and also because of the bypass SDV of both separator (
SDV 113 for V-110 & SDV 253 for V-250 ) are lock closed. The reason for lock closing
the BYPASS SDV because the SDV are quick open so when the separator shutdown it
will divert the flow directly to CPA and by this it can creates several problems :
Will create a sudden liquid incoming ( liquid hold up ) and level increasing at
CPA process and eventually it will upsets the process which can lead to
shutdown.
The gas will be wetter and this will effect to gas compression process & will also
upset the system which can lead to shutdown.
It can create massive vibration on the pipeline and can cause damage to the
pipeline itself due to the sudden flow diverting.
Floating with both LP separators V-250 and V-110 are off service will certainly have
some disadvantage if compared to when it is in FORCE configuration.
The disadvantage of this configuration is:
o The separation process rely on mainly to CPA V-450, V-460 & V-470 LP
separators, so the result would be far less good compare to configuration at
FORCE.
o It could create some upsets to CPA process due to unstable flow especially
when there are some wells having an intermittent flow.
o There is no data comparison what so ever of gas and water sent to CPA from
the field.
o The quality of water sent to CPA will have more oil content compare to when it’s
in FORCE configuration because the separation depend on mainly by three
separator at CPA process.
o There is no restrain what so ever for sand, debris and other foreign particles
that might exist and carried over to CPA process area.
