SUMMARY

There’s a world that full of murder, democracy, riots, and gang

violence, if you look around you can say that “the peace is gone and
it’ll never comeback”. People cares no one.

There’s a girl named Eva, she wanted to be free, to play baby dolls
and other toys for a girl, but she chose and accepts her true world, to
be a strong woman to fight for his people, family, and territory. His uncle
shot by a gang, she saw it on her own eyes. The police came to their
house and took her father for no reason. When she got her gang
initiation, she became a third generation. Their gang fights for their own
territory, raise, and respect.

Early 1994 the Freshmen Year, there’s a woman who applied in the
school named Erin Gruwell. She is an English teacher and it’s her first time
to her life to teach. Unluckily the section that she will teach were the
worst section in the school. On first day of class Ms. Erin Gruwell was so
excited and expecting for good day, and good students. When her
students came to the room, she’s like no one or ordinary person, her
students don’t treat him like a teacher, they treat her like a new enemy
stepped on their territory. Meanwhile, two of her students fought, she
can’t do anything to these two students because they are not listening
to her, they just keep throwing trash talk to each other. On the Second
day her student Eva opened the gate of their school to let her gang
member in, after opening the gate Ms. Gruwell hear some sound like a
person who got punched, her students stopped on talking and moving
when they hear the sound and look each other, Ms. Gruwell didn’t know
that, that’s the start of the gang war. Every student in the class room
came out, when Ms. Gruwell came out, she saw students fighting, she
was so confused and didn’t know what is happening. When she got
home, she started crying and voice outing her feelings to her husband,
she told that “this is not exactly what I pictured”.

One night, Eva’s gang prepared for a road trip and a jamming and
they stopped in a store to buy some snacks and foods. One of her
classmate was there, her classmate was also accompanied by a group
of gang. Meanwhile, Paco (boyfriend of Eva) saw the guy who punched
him, he gets his gun on his pocket and aim the man, the man quickly
moved down and run. So that instead of killing that man who punched
him, he accidentally shot the friend of Eva’s classmate. The man that
punched Paco accused that he’s the one who killed the friend of Eva’s
classmate. In the morning Eva can’t look to the eye of her classmate
directly because of what happened last night.

Early in the morning Ms. Gruwell go to the library to barrow some book
about holocaust for her students, but Ms. Campbell didn’t approve the
request of Ms. Gruwell, Ms. Erin was so disappointed that time to Ms.
Campbell. Few days ago, Ms. Erin prepared an activity for her students
which is the game line, the instruction of the is, if the question suits for
you, you go to the line. After doing this activity Ms. Gruwell offered her
students a big book, they will write their story there and if they want to
Ms. Erin read their diary they will just put it in the cabinet. On that night
Ms. Gruwell opened the cabinet she was shocked when she saw that
the cabinet is full of journals, she read it one by one. Because of the
journal Ms. Erin able to know the stories of her students why they act like
that. Every each of one of her students had a bad memories and
experiences. Ms. Gruwell is so busy for her students, she almost forgot her
responsibility to her husband, like she’s always late and no time to enjoy
a time with her husband. Because of being busy of Ms. Gruwell, they
were always fighting.

One day Ms. Gruwell pick up her students to go in a museum and a

dinner. On that museum you can see a pictures and history of a children
that suffers their life and their family, her students were so quit and
thinking, they were comparing their bad experiences and they taught
their bad experiences are nothing compare to those children that they
saw on the wall. When the night Ms. Gruwell took her students in a dinner
a big dinner, were in there Ms. Gruwell invited some true holocaust for
her students. The holocaust inspired the students by their own stories and
experiences in life. When they got home, her students change their life
by letting go the bad experiences and bad doings. In short they start a
new life a life that full of peace and respect, and the old classroom that
full of fighting they became one and became a family. On what
happened few days ago some of her co teacher and their principal get
jealous on her for the reason that the students loves her so much. Ms.
Gruwell gave some books to her students, they read it day and night,
the Anne Frank book reflects on their life, they were getting more
interested in life and study because of what they learn and read in the
book. On the other day, all of her student’s request that they want to
meet elderly Anne Frank, they raise a fund for the fare and invitation to
Anne Frank. When Anne Frank came, they were inspired again to her
story.
But one day Ms. Gruwell told to her students that on junior year she
can’t be their teachers anymore in English, and the students didn’t want
what Ms. Gruwell said. So that Ms. Gruwell request it into the head and
the head approved it, but not just in junior year also in senior year,
because of that her students were so very happy.

1. MESSAGE OF THE STORY:

It doesn’t matter where you came from, you can be free, free
of doing good things.

2. HOW DOES IT CONNECT INTO YOUR PERSONAL LEVEL?

To be honest I can’t connect it into my life because I’ve never

experienced to be in a gang or to be involved in a gang
violence

3. REVIEW AND CONCLUSION:

Everyone can be a hero, by doing the right thing. Don’t let the
bad memories swallow your future and dreams, because in every
day there’s a new hope.
