SIERRA CLUB TREE TEAM

It’s the little things

citizens do. That’s what
will make the
difference. My little
thing is planting trees.

- Wangari Maathai

In 2008, the Oakland City Council reduced funding to

the city’s Tree Division and suspended routine tree-
plantings, so the Sierra Club’s SF Bay Chapter began
to plant trees where homeowners would take care of
them. Beginning in early 2010, the Sierra Club Tree
Team planted trees using only small groups of
volunteers, hand-tools, and private vehicles. As of
January 2018, we (and our sister organization Trees for
Oakland) have planted over 1,750 trees, many of
them in communities rated as "environmentally
disadvantaged" by CalEnviroScreen2.0.

Our volunteers plant trees on weekends from WWW.MEETUP.COM/

November to June, as well as some occasional days SANFRANCISCOBAY
during the summer and fall. You can find upcoming
events and sign up to volunteer with us on WWW.SIERRACLUB.ORG/
our activities calendar or Meetup page. Please SAN-FRANCISCO-BAY/
