LED series/parallel array wizard
The LED series/parallel array wizard is a calculator that will help you design large arrays of LEDs.
The LED calculator was great for single LEDsbut when you have several, the wizard will help you
arrange them in a series or combined series/parallel configuration. The wizard determines the
current limiting resistor value for each portion of the array and calculates power consumed. All you
need to know are the specs of your LEDs and how many you'd like to use.

design my array
Solution 0: 3 x 8 array, 1 extra LED
R = 100 ohms
R = 100 ohms
R = 100 ohms
R = 100 ohms
+12V R = 100 ohms
R = 100 ohms
R = 100 ohms
R = 100 ohms
R = 470 ohms
The wizard says: In solution 0:
each 100 ohm resistor dissipates 40 mW
the wizard says the color code for 100 is brown black brown
the wizard thinks 1/4W resistors are fine for your application
the 470 ohm resistor dissipates 188 mW
the wizard says the color code for 470 is yellow violet brown
the wizard thinks 1/2W resistors are needed for your application
together, all resistors dissipate 508 mW
together, the diodes dissipate 1700 mW
total power dissipated by the array is 2208 mW

the 470 ohm resistor dissipates 188 mW
the wizard says the color code for 470 is yellow violet brown
the wizard thinks 1/2W resistors are needed for your application
together, all resistors dissipate 1484 mW
together, the diodes dissipate 1700 mW
total power dissipated by the array is 3184 mW
the array draws current of 260 mA from the source.
