Documentation of Turkish State's Violations in Afrin

Introduction

 Rojava Center for Strategic Studies (NRLS) - Afrin Branch – managed to document the
violations of the Turkish State and its affiliated Islamist factions in Afrin from 20 January
to 13 March 2018. Our staff risked their lives since the beginning of the so-called
"Operation Olive Branch" on 20 January 2018, and worked under very difficult
circumstances to convey the violations of human rights that are contrary to all
international treaties and conventions.

This file includes twenty-seven documented cases, including documentation of the

destruction of houses, schools, villages, bakeries, archaeological sites, animal
slaughterhouses, drinking water networks, targeting convoys of civilians, and the use of
internationally prohibited weapons.

 TARGETING THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES IN AIN DARA

 Built between 700 and 1300 BC, the archeological hill of Ain Dara is one of the most
important cities in the Aramaic period, with an area of 50 hectares.

This attack reflects the hatred and barbarism of the Turkish government against the
identity of the Syrian peoples.

 DESTRUCTION OF KHALTA VILLAGE

 The Turkish army, on 2 February 2018, bombed the village of Khalta to the rubble. It is
located in the west of Lelon Mountain, south Afrin.

 TARGETING WATER PURIFICATION PLANT

 On 7 February 2018, the Turkish army bombarded the water purification plant in Matina
village of Sherawa district in Afrin, which is the main source for drinking water and
irrigation in Afrin.

 THE TURKISH WARPLANES TARGETED A
SLAUGHTERHOUSE IN THE CENTER OF AFRIN CITY

 On 9 February 2018, Turkish warplanes bombed a slaughterhouse in the center of Afrin

city, injuring 3 civilians and causing total destruction to the building and machines. The
civilians' names are Diba Muhammed Durmush, 35 years old, from DerBalot village, and
her twin sons Mustafa Badir Durmush and Muhammed Badir Durmush, 10 years old.

 BOMBARDMENT ON MİRKAN VİLLAGE- MABATA

 On 28 February 2018, the Turkish army bombed Mirkan village of Mabata district,
injuring two civilian and causing big damage to civilians' properties. The names of the
injured are Fahema Ahmad Mustafa and Juan Muhammad Abden Omar.

 EVEN THE BAKERIES IN AFRIN WERE TARGETED

 Even the bakeries were not spared from the indiscriminate and brutal bombardment of
the Turkish army.

There are a lot of bakeries which either directly bombarded, or stopped because of the
intensive attacks on the villages and districts of Afrin.

 ATTACK ON AN ARMENİAN FAMİLY İN RAJO DİSTRİCT OF AFRİN

 On 23 January 2018, the Turkish warplanes targeted a house which belonged to an

Armenian family near Hasharka bridge, injuring three civilians, whose names are:

 Shamsa Konis, 57 years old (the mother)

 Rosher Konis, 18 years old (the son)
 Hanifa Konis, 16 years old (the daughter)

The mother and the son later died due to heavy injury, while the daughter's leg was
amputated.

 MABATA MASSACRE

 On 26 January 2018, the Turkish warplanes bombarded Mabata district, killing a whole
Arab family, who had fled from Idleb and sought refuge in Afrin's Mabata.

The family consisted of 7 people, 6 of them were killed:

 Taha Mustafa Al-Khatir , father, 45 years old

 Amina Mustafa Al-Khatir, mother, 40 years old
 Mustafa Taha Al-Khatir, 17 years old
 Suleman Taha Al-Khatir, 14 years old
 Zakiya Taha Al-Khatir, 15 years old

 TARGETİNG A FAMİLY İN QANTARA VİLLAGE

 On 24 February 2018, the Turkish warplanes bombed Qantara village, killing a child and
heavily wounding other members of his family.

 Rashed Rasho, 70 years old, father of two children, injured in the face and belly.
 Hussein Rashed Rasho, 9 years old, heavily injured in his right hand.
 Ibrahim Rashed Rasho, 4 years old, was killed.

 POULTRY FARM MASSACRE IN JILBIRE VILLAGE

 Turkish warplanes targeted a poultry farm, killing a whole Arab displaced family, who
used to work and live there.

Their names are:

 Rahaf Al-Hussein, 33 years old

 Wail Al-Hussein, 1 year old

 Hadil Al-Hussein, 10 years old

 Xaliya Al-Hussein, 8 years old

 Salma Al-Hussein, 6 years old

 ATTACKS ON CHİLDREN İN BASUTA-AFRİN

 In 19 February 2018, the Turkish army shelled the village of Basuta, killing a child and
wounding some others.

The names of the victims:

 Heva Muhammed Khlaho, 13 years old, killed.

 Dilbar Xalil Khlaho, 13 years old, injured in her leg.
 Muhammed Ziyad Nabih, 9 years old, injured in his leg and throat.
 Hanan Muhammed Khlaho, 11 years old, injured in his leg.
 Shevan Xalil Khlaho, 7 years old.
 Jinav Ziyad Khlaho, 8 years old.
 Ava Xalil Khlaho, 11 years old, injured in her left elbow.
 Dijwar Nazmi Khlaho, 8 years old, injured in his right knee.

 THE MASSACRE OF BARBANA VILLAGE IN RAJO DISTRICT

 The Turkish warplanes targeted a public transport vehicle, killing and injuring 21
civilians, most of them were women and children.

The names of the killed and injured are:

 FRERİYA MASSACRE İN JENDRESSE DİSTRİCT

 On 5 March 2018, the Turkish army committed a massacre in Freriya village of Jendresse
district, killing and wounding a whole family of 10 people.

The names of the civilians killed and injured:

 Mahmoud Alo, 25 years old, killed.

 Diyana Gazi AlSalih, 3 months, killed.
 Abdullah Turki Dawoud, 18 years old, injured.

 HEKICHE MASSACRE

 On 13 February 2018, the Turkish warplanes bombarded Hekiche village in Shiye

district of Afrin, killing two women and injuring several other civilians. The names of
the victims are:

 GUBAL MASSACRE

 On 28 January 2018, the Turkish army bombarded the village of Gubal in Sherawa
district-Afrin. As a result, 8 people of a displaced Arab family, who fled from other parts
of Syria seeking refuge in Afrin, which had been a safe zone for thousands of Syrians
before the Turkish invasion, were killed.

Names of the victims:

 QARATAPA VILLAGE

 On 5 March 2018, the Turkish army carried out airstrikes against Qaratapa village in
Shara district, killing and wounding civilians.

Names of killed and wounded civilians:

 Aslan Aslan, from Qaratapa village, injured in his right hand.

 Hussein Muhammed Shekho, 60 years old, from Qaratapa village, injured below his back.
 Ramziya Abdulrahman, 50 years old, from Qaratapa village, was killed.
 Nabi Ismayil Shekho, 61 years old, from Qaratapa village, his right hand was amputated.

 USE OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS IN ERENDE VILLAGE OF AFRIN

 On 16 February 2018, the Turkish warplanes attacked Erendê village in Shiyê district
with internationally prohibited chemical weapons.

The civilians subjected to the chemical attack are:

 Abdulrahman Shalik, 29 years old.

 Mahmoud Rashid Hasoun, 33 years old.
 Wadah Mustafa Khalil, 35 years old.
 Ahmad Muhamed Hamo, 38 years old.
 Adnan Shaliko, 35 years old.
 Muhamed Arif Haqi, 43 years old.

 Turkish Artillery Targeted Visitors Showing
Solidarity for Afrin

 In 22 February 2018, a convoy of visitors from Qamishli, El Heseka, Kobane, Derik, Til
Tamir, Dirbasiya and Shingal headed to Afrin to provide moral support for the people.
The Turkish artillery started shelling the convoy soon after they arrived at Al-Zyara
village, which separates the areas controlled by the Self-Administration of Afrin and the
regime. As a result, a civilian lost his life and many others wounded.

 AFRIN CITY BOMBARDMENT

 On 20 February 2018, the Turkish army targeted many areas inside Afrin city, injuring
six civilians and damaging houses and cars.

The names of the injured civilians:

CIVILIANS TARGETED BY THE TURKISH ARMY IN BADDINA VILLAGE

 On 28 February 2018, the Turkish army targeted a battery factory in Baddina village. As
a result, two civilians, working in the factory, were injured. Their names are
AbdulRahman Rashed Ahmad, 35 years old, and Omar Rasho, 31 years old.

 KAKHRA VILLAGE

 On 2 March 2018, the Turkish occupation army bombarded the densely populated
village of Kakhra, Mabata district, with all kinds of weapons, killing one civilian and
injuring five others.

The names of the killed and injured due to the attacks on Kakhra village:

 Juan Sadiq Ezzat, 30 years old, killed.

 A CIVILIAN KILLED IN SEWIYA VILLAGE

 On 20 February 2018, the Turkish army and its allied Islamist groups bombed Sewiya
village in Mabata district of Afrin, which resulted in the death of a civilian called Ashraf
Ali Haydar.

 MEHMUD AHMED MANKAWI

 On 27 February 2018, the Turkish army targeted Yalanqoz in Jindrese district with bombes,
killing a civilian called Mehmud Ahmed Mankawi, born on 10 February 1997.
