All of our appliances come with a minimum of a year manufacturer’s guarantee, and our Lamona appliances are
guaranteed for two years, with five years on oven door glass.

Leonard Cheshire Disability
The partnership between Howdens Joinery and Leonard Cheshire Disability is based on a shared belief in
the value of local relationships and putting local communities first.
Since 2004, Howdens has worked closely with the UK’s leading charity for disabled people to develop a
range of Inclusive kitchens, and to support and empower thousands of individuals across the country –
donating almost £2m in the process.

More than just care

Leonard Cheshire Disability helps people with physical and learning disabilities to live independently – not
just by providing care and accommodation, but also making it easier for them to develop skills through
employment, education and volunteering so they can contribute to their local communities.

Developing Inclusive kitchens

For many residents in Leonard Cheshire homes, preparing food is an important and enjoyable part of life.
We have used our knowledge to make this as easy as possible, and have developed a range of Inclusive
kitchens, with features and modifications for people of different abilities, many of which have been
donated to Leonard Cheshire homes.

‘Can Do’ Project

Since 2011, we have supported and funded the Leonard Cheshire Disability ‘Can Do’ project, which
gives young adults with disabilities the chance to volunteer in their own communities, and can lead to
employment.

Fundraising and Volunteering

Howdens employees are involved in various fundraising challenges and volunteering projects throughout
the year for Leonard Cheshire Disability, including the Dambusters Run and Tri-Together Triathlon.

Howdens are experts in designing Inclusive kitchens for disabled people
or those with limited mobility.

At different stages of your life, your requirements for your kitchen

might change and you may have to adapt the way you approach food
preparation, cooking and entertaining.

This is where Howdens’ range of Inclusive kitchens can help. They have
a variety of clever features and adaptations, including height adjustable
worktops and cabinets. The next few pages talk about these features in
more detail, and show the different ways in which you can adapt your
kitchen:

1. Kitchen layout
Position your cooking area, refrigeration and sink to form a triangle and create an optimal working space. Include space for a turning circle if you need to accommodate a wheelchair.

2. Accessibility
Worktops, appliances and wall units need to be at the right height for your needs and may need to be adjustable. You can also choose from flexible plinth heights.

3. Usability
Bar handles and lever-action taps are easier to use, while magnetic pressure catches take the effort out of opening doors.

Howdens Inclusive kitchens provide flexibility for users, with the choice of two plinth options.*
60mm Plinth
This lowers the overall height of the unit to
820mm, giving greater accessibility to work
surfaces and cabinets. Units at this plinth height
can also be used with pull-out accessories for
increased functionality.
A wide range of units are available using a
60mm plinth including drawer packs, appliance
housing, and units fitted with 170º hinges for
greater accessibility.

Performance and appearance are equally important in a worktop,
which needs to stand up to a variety of uses whilst complementing your
kitchen frontal. We provide the Light Reflective Value (LRV), so that the
visual contrast between surfaces is identified. Visual contrast enables
people with impaired vision to gather information about an environment,
increasing confidence and independence*.

Choose a solid quartz worktop with a mirror chip finish or a polished

granite worktop for a premium look in your kitchen. Both are 20mm
thick.

Solid wood worktops add warmth and character to any kitchen. They can
be profiled or grooved to create intricate detailing and will require oiling,
waxing or a plastic coating to keep them looking their best. They are
available in 27mm and 40mm thicknesses.

Laminate worktops come in a wide variety of colours and textures

including a realistic stone-like appearance. Choose from bullnose or
square edged profiles.

All worktops come with a 1 year manufacturer’s guarantee. In the unlikely

event of a defect in manufacturing or raw materials, we will happily

a thank you we would like to give you a Lamona cookbook that contains more than
40 recipes for delicious meals, desserts and drinks from around the world.

We have teamed up with food writers and stylists Valerie Berry, Angela Boggiano,
Sunil Vijayaker and Seiko Hatfield to create our latest Recipes from Around the
World book, with recipes originating in France, Italy, India and The Far East.

Fresh Pesto
Lasagne
Serves 4-6 10 mins preparation, 20 mins cooking

Ingredients Although traditionally served as a first course in Italy, this

100g fresh pesto simple, meat-free lasagne makes a lovely light lunch or
250g fresh lasagne sheets supper – and using homemade pesto adds the vibrant taste
250ml mascarpone of fresh basil.
250g mozzarella, drained and
roughly grated
1. Pre-heat the oven to 180ºC/fan 160ºC/gas mark 4.
4 tablespoons Parmesan
cheese, finely grated 2. Spread 2 tablespoons of pesto over the base of a deep,
1 litre ovenproof dish. Place a large sheet of lasagne on top,
and then spread this with a little more pesto.
To Serve 3. Dot teaspoons of mascarpone on top, and scatter over a
2 tablespoons pine nuts, lightly quarter of the mozzarella.

5. Sprinkle the Parmesan over the lasagne, and bake for

6. To serve, sprinkle with toasted pine nuts and basil leaves.

Basil Pesto Sauce

Here are just some of the mouth-watering recipes Serves 4 10 mins preparation

Ingredients 1. Place the garlic in a pestle and mortar with the sea salt, and

that you will find in the new Lamona cookbook. 1 small garlic clove
1 pinch sea salt
25g pine nuts, very lightly
toasted
pound until you’ve crushed the garlic to a paste. Add the
pine nuts and basil, and continue to pound until you have
a coarse paste. (If you prefer, you can do this stage in a food
processor.)
50g fresh basil 2. Transfer the paste to a bowl, and stir in the Parmesan,
25g Parmesan cheese, finely lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil – along with enough
grated water to make a thick sauce.
Juice of ½ lemon
75ml extra virgin olive oil Fresh pesto can be made in advance and stored in the fridge in
a sealed container with a thin layer of olive oil on the top for up

Howdens Joinery has over 70 door styles to choose from, including

Your Howdens Joinery Guarantee

• Howdens Joinery supplies high quality kitchens cabinetry to trade customers from stock. When professionally installed in the home, these products will provide many years of reliable use.
In the unlikely event of a problem occurring with our kitchen cabinetry as a result of a defect in the manufacturing process or raw materials, we will happily, promptly and without charge, replace any cabinet
(excluding frontals) for a period of within 25 years from the date of its installation in the UK and any frontal*2 for a period of within 5 years from the date of its installation in the UK.
In circumstances where you have a Howdens’ branded kitchen and need to make a claim under this guarantee, please contact your local depot who will be able to help you through the process.
