Dear Dr. Curtiss:

When considering technical communication as rhetoric, I organized the concept as follows: It is how the
professional world when discussing specialized topics, avoids the mess of misunderstandings, and
ambiguity. Avoiding these problems is done through methodically crafting a piece of text that is
persuasive in nature to effectively reach the audience to convey ideas and discoveries.

The types of writing that I have done in the past can be separated into two clear categories: my personal
life, and my professional life. In my personal life, I have composed letters, digital messages, and dabbled
in creative writing. In my professional life, I have produced reviews, reports, analyses, and research.

As a Biologist, I anticipate needing to use a variety of styles to communicate research and discovery with
peers, greater authorities, and the general public.

I expect your course will make me aware of the different writing strategies that will most effectively
allow me to share information, as well as refining my professional communications skills. I look forward
to continuing to work with you.

Sincerely,

Heather Mortimore
