Elastogran
Takeover of
Chemtura
The company Elastogran GmbH, Lem-
förde, announces that the authorised
antitrust authorities permitted them
to buy the polyurethane business of
the American Chemtura Corporation,
and the transaction was carried out.
This business is particularly focused
on polyurethane systems for the shoe
market, mainly for safety shoes and
brogues (witcothane). The purchase
also includes Chemtura’s Pesol prod-
ucts, as well as the European poly-
ester-polyol product segment (Fom-
rez). The acquisition neither concerns
the global Adiprene and Vibrathane
Chemtura business nor the North Ame-
rican Fomrez polyester-polyol busi-
ness, nor the Fomrez product lines of
the Baxenden Chemicals Ltd. in Great
Britain.
Basell/Akzo Nobel
Acquisition
Basell and Akzo Nobel have signed
agreements whereby Basell will buy
Akzo Nobel’s Polymerization Catalysts
& Components business. The busi-
ness includes catalyst manufacturing
and other assets located at Edison,
New Jersey in the United States. The
deal is expected to be completed in
the second quarter of 2006, following
regulatory notifications and approvals.
“Akzo Nobel’s Edison site has
been producing Avant catalysts for
Basell licensees for nearly 20 years“,
said Volker Trautz, Basell’s CEO. “Our
primary interest in acquiring these
assets is to better ensure long term
security of supply for our catalyst cus-
tomers worldwide. However the
other business activities at the site
are also a good fit with our Catalyst
Business and will enhance our prod-
uct offerings.”

polymer chemicals, surfactants, func-
tional chemicals and base chemicals.
BASF
MDI Plant in China
BASF, Huntsman, and a group of Chi-
nese enterprises – Shanghai Hua Yi
(Group Company), Sinopec Shanghai
Gao Qiao Petrochemical Corporation
and Shanghai Chloro-Alkali Chemical
Co., Ltd. – are considering building a
new MDI plant (diphenylmethandi-
isocyanate) in China to meet the in-
creasing need for this product. At pre-
sent, different locations are under
consideration. Commissioning is
planned for 2010. The plant’s nomi-
nal annual capacity of this raw poly-
urethane is 400 000 t.
Krauss-Maffei
Subsidiary in
Thailand
The plastics producer Krauss-Maffei
Kunststofftechnik GmbH has founded
a subsidiary in Thailand. Seven cus-
tomer support personnel are em-
ployed at Krauss-Maffei Thailand Co.
Ltd. based in Bangkok. In addition to
its state-of-the-art office infrastruc-
ture, the new company has its own
stock or readily available spare parts.
The customers of Krauss-Maffei
are mainly from the automotive and
packaging industries (foods and cos-
