Ignition System:

The importance of safety in this task

- Bring in the aircraft into the hangar

- Bearing in mind the Emergency response plan such as the fire extinguisher location, fire warden,
first aid box and a first aider, the exit route.
- Bond the aircraft
- Give it six (6) minutes to cool down (Residual voltage)
- Touching with bare hands
- Disconnect cable coupling nuts at ignition exciter end first. (Residual voltage)
- No lubricant to come in contact with exciter connectors, central conductors of cable.
- Should the Igniter plug be dropped
- Igniter firing end should not be clean.

Purpose

- To provide spark to ignite fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber

Description

Exciter unit:
- supplied 2700 volts to 3100 volts with 28/24VDC input
- Mounted on aircraft
- Convert low DC voltage input into a high output voltage.
- Capacitor stored sufficient energy to ionize a spark gap.
- Out voltage of 8,000 Volts

Igniter Cable Lead

- 2 insulated Igniter Cable Lead breaded in flexible metal material.

Igniter Plug (Spark Igniter)

- 2 each per Gas generator
- Position at 4, 11 o’clock
- In form of threaded plugs with cebtral electrode
- Annular semi-conducting material.

Description

- Inspect spark igniters for wear and erosion.

- Inspect cables for chaffing and connectors for corrosion.
- Inspect cooling holes of spark igniters for blockage.
- Inspect igniter shell and electrode for erosion.
- Proceed by elimination to find faulty components.
