III. PROCEDURE
Teacher,s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Requesting everyone to please stand
for our prayer to be led by Mark.
Father of Light and Wisdom, thank you for
giving me a mind that can love.

Help me to keep learning every day of my

life—no matter the subject may be. Let me
be convinced that all knowledge leads to
you and let me know how to find you and
love you in all the things you have made.

Encourage me when the studies are

difficult and when I am tempted to give up.
Enlighten me when my brain is slow and
help me to grasp the truth held out to me.

Grant me the grace to put my knowledge

to use in building the kingdom of God on
earth so that I may enter the kingdom of
God in heaven. Amen

Good morning Sir!

2. Greetings
Good morning class!

3. Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent for today?
None Sir!

Okay, since there is no absent today,

we will start our new lesson now.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation/Review

But before we proceed to our lesson,

let us visit some familiar place during
our childhood

Are you familiar with this place?

Yes sir! That’s bikini bottom where

spongebob, Patrick, Squidward and Mr.
Krab lives.
Very good class!
Now let us visit some notable houses
in the bikini bottom.

Are you familiar with this place?

Yes sir! That’s Krusty Krab owned by Mr.

Krab
Now, that place will become our
point of reference in finding other
notable houses in the Bikini bottom.
Can you help me to locate Krusty
Krab in our Cartesian coordinate
system which will serve as the bikini
bottom place. Each square in the
Cartesian plane is equivalent to 1 sq.
km. Since that is our point of
reference that will be place at the (Students will raise their hand and a
center of the Bikini Bottom. student will be chosen to put Krusty Krab
at the center of the Cartesian plane.
Now, How about this?
Yes sir, That’s Patrick’s House.
Okay good, please help me to locate
Patrick’s house which is located 4 km
east and 5km north of the Krusty
Krab. Any hand? (Someone was called to locate Patrick’s
house which is located at quadrant I and
has a coordinate of (4,5))
Very Good!

Okay, lets have another one.

How about this?

I know that sir! That’s Squidward’s house

Good! Now, please help me again to

locate Squidward’s house which is
located 2 km west and 3km south of
the Krusty Krab. Any hand? (Someone was called to locate Squidward’s
house which is located at quadrant III and
has a coordinate of (-2,-3))

Very Good!

Okay, for the last one

Do you know this house?

I know that sir! That’ the house of

Spongebob.
Very good!

For the last time, can you help me to

locate spongebob’s house which is
located 4 km east and 3 km south of
the Krusty Krab. Any hand?
(Someone was called to locate
Spongebob’s house which is located at
Very good class! We locate all the quadrant IV and has a coordinate of (4,-3))
coordinates of each houses in the
bikini bottom, So I have some
questions.
By merely counting each square
units, can you tell me how far is
spongebob’s house from patrick’s Since each square units is equivalent to 1
house? sq. km. I can tell that spongebob’s house is
8 kilometer far from patrick’s house.

Very good observation! How about

the distance of spongebob’s house
and squidward’s house? The distance between spongebob’s house
and squidward’s house is 6kilometers.

Again, very good!

It shows that if the two coordinates is

parallel to either s-axis or y-axis, we
can easily find the distance between
them. But what if the two
coordinates, if we connect them, is
there a way to find the distance
between the two points, just like the
distance between patrick’s house and
squidward’s house?

2. Discussion
In our figure, what can you notice
when we connect the coordinates?
Sir, we form a right triangle.
Very good observation!

Without the aid of the Cartesian

Plane, we can still find the distance
between two points which are either
parallel to y-axis or x-axis,
Do you know how?
First thing to do is to label each
coordinate by (x1,y1) and (x2, y2) and
then for lines parallel to y-axis, we can
conclude that the distance is equal to
|𝑦2 − 𝑦1 | and for lines parallel to x-axis,
we can also conclude that the distance is
equal to |𝑥2 − 𝑥1 |. The question is how
about the diagonal one?

Can you suggest any idea how to find the

distance between patrick’s house and
squidward’s house, since the figure is Sir, maybe we can use Pythagorean
relatable to a right triangle? theorem since the diagonal line is the
hypotenuse of the right triangle.
Very good! Can you tell me again what is
the formula for the Pythagorean If the length of the hypotenuse of a right
theorem triangle is c and the length of the other two
legs are a and b, then c2 = a2 + b2.

Very good!

So it shows that the distance of

spongebob’s house from patrick’s house
which is |𝑦2 − 𝑦1 | and the distance of
spongebob’s house from squidward’s
house whichis |𝑥2 − 𝑥1 | are the legs of
the right triangle, so therefore, how will
we find the distance between Patrick’s We can use the formula
house and squidward’s house since it
serves as the hypotenuse of the right √(𝑥2 − 𝑥1 )2 + (𝑦2 − 𝑦1 )2 derived from
triangle? the Pythagorean theorem.

Very impressive! That is exactly the

formula for distance.

Is there any question class? If none let’s

have some group activity in relation with
distance.

3. Application/Activity

I will group you into 3 groups and you

will pick a piece of paper in our box
which contain some problems connected
to distance. Try to analyse the problem.
Make sure that everyone will contribute
in getting the correct answer in each
problem. You will be given a total of 10
minutes to answer the problem. Choose
a representative, preferably the group
leader to present the answer and the
process how they get the correct
answer.

The problems are:

a. A helicopter is planning to travel

from helipad A to helipad B. Helipad
A is located 7km west and 10 km
north of the malacanang palace
while helipad B is 2 km west and 2

canoe in a straight river from area A
to area B. Area A is 8km east and
