aOPERATING ROOM RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.0 PURPOSE/ INTRODUCTION


A rule is to design to control the conduct of those to whom it applies. Regulations are official
rules and have to be followed. Every department has its own set of rules to be followed to have
uniformity in the said area. As we go through, we will tackle some guidelines regarding proper OR attire,
attendance, leave, absences, tardiness, telephone use, staff meeting, maintaining of the rooms.

2.0 POLICY DESCRIPTION


This topic is dedicated exclusively only for OR staff

3.0 RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 PROPER OR ATTIRE

3.1a Employees are required to wear prescribed OR uniform and footwear inside OR premises.
Nurses are advised to wear the official white uniform coming or leaving the hospital. Color
coding for official OR scrub suit uniforms purple- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Brown-
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. And wash day for Sunday.
3.1b Every staff must bring his/her own personal slippers and smack gown in the OR.
3.1c Always wear cap once entering OR areas.
3.1d Avoid wearing dangling or big earring.
3.1e Remove jewelries specially when there’s procedure on-going.
3.1f all staff are required to wear hospital ID at all times within the hospital premises.

3.2 ATTENDANCE

3.2a all personnel are required to report on duty 15 minutes before their schedule time.

3.3 ABSENCES

3.3a notice of absence should be advised to the immediate head/ supervisor or the HRMD office
in writing at least two days before its effectivity.

3.4 TARDINESS

3.4a employees are required to be in their post on or before their scheduled work of duty.

3.5 LEAVES

3.5a SICK LEAVE- sick leave application should be filed on the day of their leave or the day upon
report to duty to avoid no approval of the application and considered as AWOL.

3.5b VACATION LEAVE- application for vacation leave should be filed two weeks before the
target time and this leaves are scheduled according to their anniversary of appointment. This
rule is applicable for regular employees.
3.6 TELEPHONE USE

Telephones are exclusively for OR/DR personnel and doctor’s use only. Outside calls are not
allowed the use OR telephones. Personal call is prohibited.

3.7 MEETINGS

Monthly meeting is being held every 30th day of the month. Emergency meeting in the unit is
being held when the situation call for it such as demonstration of newly acquired equipment and set of
new instruments. Problems or incident that needs an immediate attention or solution. And new policy
and regulation that needs to be discussed and be immediately implemented.

3.8 MAINTANING OF THE ROOMS

3.8a Nurse on duty is obliged to clean every Sunday. It includes wall to wall using water + Zonrox
with final touch of vinegar and switch ON the ultra violet light (UV) for 2 hours

3.8b Switch off the light when unnecessary.

4.0 GENERAL AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLES.

Nurses must hold in confidence personal matter committed to their care.

5.0 DEFINITION OF TERMS

5.1 leaves- to renew themselves physically and mentally.


5.2 tardiness- not arriving, occurring, acting or done at the scheduled, expected or usual time.
5.3 attendance- act of attending.

6.0 PROCEDURE

6.1 PROPER OR ATTIRE

6.1b Every OR staff who wishes to leave the OR premises, he/ she must wear white smack gown.
6.1c OR staff are not allowed to go outside hospital vicinity during duty wearing scrub suits
together with smack gown. Change your outfit is advised.
6.1d Every staff must bring his/her own personal slippers and smack gown in the OR.
3.1e Always wear cap once entering OR areas.
3.1f Avoid wearing dangling or big earring.
3.1g Remove jewelries specially when there’s procedure on-going.

Every actions that staff done, it must be notified verbally the team leader, supervisor nurse,
chief nurse and the human resources department. Secure a slip form in specific guidelines that requires.
