New Year’s Around the World


Religion/Non-Fiction Study
You have the choice of working on your own or with a partner of your choosing. You will be
asked to choose, from the list provided, a New Year’s celebration from a different part of the
world.

Once chosen, you (and your partner) will need to research the celebration, taking into
account the following:
- Who celebrates this holiday
- When does the celebration occur – time of the year, calendar
- Where
- Events (what does the celebration entail)– festivals, food, traditions, etc.
- History of the celebration

Assignment Expectations:
Creativity:
All groups must complete a written report on their celebration. Groups are asked to present
this information in a creative way (ie. Poster board, brochure, Adobe Spark, PowerPoint,
book etc.)

Non-fiction Text Features:


Your project must include non-fiction text features studied in class.

- You project should have the following:


o Title
o Headings
o Bold print (on important words and/or words that require definition)

- You must also include at least 6 different text features from the list below:

Graph Caption Photograph
Labels Illustration Bullet Points

*Note: You may use bullet points when listing items, however your information should be
communicated in proper sentences and paragraph format.
