• Navigation in congested waters, navigation during restricted visibility
• Engineering watch at an unsheltered anchorage
• Engineering watch in port
• Stand-bye engine room watchkeeping periods (arrival and departure)
• Unmanned machinery spaces
• The proper usage of checklists during various watchkeeping periods
• Responding to alarms, troubleshooting and corrective actions
• Bridge notification, calling the chief engineer officer
• Communication, decision making and awareness during watchkeeping
Objectives • To provide knowledge and skills to operate, supervise and monitor the safe
operation and control of a ship’s machinery installation in accordance with
provisions of section A-III/1, A-VIII/2, B-VIII/2 of the STCW 78 code as amended
• To teach the student a thorough understanding of proper watchkeeping
procedures and duties
Entry Standards The course is aimed at, but not limited to, the following groups of people:
• Aspiring candidates for the STCW95 Engineering Officer of the Watch Certificate of
Competency, STCW95 Certificate of Competency holders (engineering officers) who
wish to improve their watchkeeping skills
Certification On successful completion the participant will receive a MTC certificate
Facilities Engine simulator with engine room, ECR, emergency switchboard room,
