1.0 Introduction

1.1 Overview

The Master shall ensure that all Officers read this manual and that the on board
Familiarization Checklist contains the appropriate information to indicate that the Safety
Manual has been read and understood. The Safety Manual has been designed to assist
Masters and Officers on board and all personnel ashore to become familiar with the
standards of safety management the Company has set.

Nothing in this manual removes from the Master his authority to take any steps and issue
orders, whether or not they are in accordance with the contents of this manual, which he
considers are necessary for the preservation of life, the safety of the vessel and her cargo
or for pollution prevention.

1.2 Contents

This manual demonstrates the importance, the Company attaches to the Safety
Management. The key to the Company’s success is communication both ashore and on
board each vessel, which is an important part of Safety Management.

1.3 Availability And Distribution Of The Safety Manual

It is the wish of the Installation Director for all personnel to become familiar with the
contents of this manual, thus helping the Company achieve its safety objectives by
maintaining uniform procedures on board vessels. Masters and managers are responsible
for making this manual available to all personnel and to actively encourage its use as a
source of reference.

This manual remains the property of the Company and must not be removed from any
vessel or office without prior permission of the Installation Director.
