An armed conflict is a contested incompatibility which concerns government and/or territory

where the use of armed force between two parties, of which at least one is the government of
a state, results in at least 25 battle-related deaths. Border skirmish is an episode of irregular or
unpremeditated fighting, especially between small or outlying parts of armies or fleets.
Rebellion is an act of violent or open resistance to an established government or ruler. Warfare
is the engagement in or the activities involved in war or conflict. Non state violence is
individuals or organizations that have economic, political or social power and are able to
influence at a national and sometimes international level but do not belong to or ally
themselves to any particular country or state. Uprising is an act of resistance or rebellion; a
revolt. One-sided violence is defined as: "The use of armed force by the government of a state
or by a formally organized group against civilians which results in at least 25 deaths in a year".
State violence is the systematic use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a
population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective. Proxy war is a war
instigated by a major power that does not itself become involved.
