Environment Concept
Art

To make my project standout I

decided to set the story in the
1960s. So I decided to
research architecture and
aesthetic from the era. I
decided to look at Tower
Blocks from the 1950s to 70s.

In my later
artwork for the
flat I decided to
exaggerate the
aspects such
as the colours
and shapes.
Such as in the
backgrounds of
old cartoons.

Character Concept Art
The Lepidopterist

Much of my influence for my

project and characters came
from cartoons from the 1960s
or earlier. Elma Fudd from the
Looney Tunes was a large
inspiration for my
Lepidopterist due to his rivalry
with Bugs Bunny. Likewise the
Lepidopterist has a sort of
rivalry with the normal
butterfly.

Prop Concept Art
Like with much of my artwork, I took influence
from products that were sold around 1950-1970
and their aesthetic, aside from the cocoon.

The camera zooms in on the window. Birds tweet, cars rush and honk their horns down below.
INT. LEPIDOPTERIST’S APARTMENT
The Lepidopterist is seen pinning a living butterfly to a board, gazing malevolently and up close to them.

LEPIDOPTERIST
[Snickering]

The needle is driven through the butterfly, it squirms before going limp.
A knock is heard from the door and the Lepidopterist looks up, ceasing his laughter. He walks away from
the desk and towards the door passing by his collections of butterflies and moths.

INT. APARTMENT HALLWAY, OUTSIDE LEPIDOPTERIST’S FLAT

He opens the door, pokes his head out and looks left and right down the hallway.
Perplexed, he then looks down to see a parcel. He picks it up and takes it inside with him.
He places the parcel on the desk and stares at it, confused as he notices the lack of a named sender. He
proceeds to open it.
He stares with intrigue and confusion at its contents – a cocoon.

LEPIDOPTERIST
Hmmmmmm
While the Lepidopterist looks at the parcel, the camera pans across the room to reveal the window. A lively butterfly
flutters into the room through the window and lands in front of him. The Lepidopterist glances at the butterfly; alerted
he grabs his net next to the desk and swipes at it.
The butterfly manages to evade the net while the Lepidopterist smashes it down onto the table. He chases it through the
room swinging his net through the air. The butterfly dashes out of the way in time as the net comes crashing down on
the Lepidopterist’s collections.
The cocoon begins to pulse and grow, the former more frequently overtime. The Lepidopterist is unaware.
The Lepidopterist swats at the butterfly and continuously misses. He ends up breaking another of his exhibits. He is
angered and his teeth are clenched.
LEPIDOPTERIST
[Growls and mumbles]

The cocoon continues to grow.

After multiple swings and attempts finally catches the butterfly. He moves the net and the insect within close to his face
and chuckles.
A shadow is casted over him and his side of the room. His laughter gradually fades as he takes notice of the shadow. He
turns slowly to face the source of it. With a look of shock and horror he stares at a huge, vibrant-coloured butterfly
hovering in front of him.
The Lepidopterist is transfixed by the peculiar being before it suddenly lunges at him.

INT. THE LEPIDOPTERIST’S FLAT
The flat is in tatters with the Lepidopterist’s exhibits littered around. The extraordinarily large butterfly is perched on
the desk, smaller, normal lepidoptera swirling and fluttering around it. Panning across the room reveals The
Lepidopterist is pinned to the wall with an expression of horror on his face.

Fade out.
