Lab 2 Exercise:

1) (~40 mins) Groupswill reconvene in the classroom at a computer work station in

order to research their topic on-line and to start composing their topic overview.
Additionally, groups will answer questions regarding the presentation Peter
Genzinger, the Geography and Global Studies Liaison Librarian gave in lecture
regarding reliable and credible internet sources, citations, etc. Questions
regarding Peter’s presentation can be found through the following path:
My Computer/x drive/GOEGLAB/gg102/Lab SCTN_
(2 marks) Groups will answer the questions and save their responses as their group
members’ first names and last initial only on the following drive for the
instructor to view and mark: File/Save As/x-drive/GOEGLAB/gg102/Lab SCTN_

2) (12 marks) (~35 mins) Next,

groups will complete a SWOT analysis. The SWOT
analysis template can be found through the following path:
My Computer/x-drive/GOEGLAB/gg102/SWOTAnalysisTemplate
Once the SWOT Analysis is completed, each group will save their SWOT
Analysis as their group member’s first names and last initial only on the
following drive for the instructor to view and mark:
File/Save As/x-drive/GOEGLAB/gg102/Lab SCTN_

3) (~15 mins) Next, groups

will brainstorm how its group members will conduct
individual audits of their usage/consumption/etc., based on the group’s topic.
*Remember: these audits will be a part of your final group work, which will be
displayed on your group’s poster presentation in the concourse, so make sure your
group prepares a detailed audit of as many different aspects of your topic as
possible to make your final results as interesting and as robust as possible!

4) (6 marks) (~20 mins) From

the audit brainstorming exercise, groups will produce a table
in Microsoft Excel that has column headers and rows that contain the various
components of the audit its group members will be conducting. *Note: The
length that an audit should be conducted for (i.e. 2 days, 1 week, etc.) will depend
on your group’s topic. For example, if you are auditing how much water you use
or how much waste you produce your group may want to do an audit over at least
4-5 days in order to obtain enough data for your group to work with. However, if
your topic is computers, cell phones and printers, you may want to do an audit of
how many of these items are in each of your group member’s homes, they have
used/owned in the past, etc.
5) Once constructed, each group will save their audit table file as their group
member’s first names and last initial only on the following drive for the
instructor to view and mark: File/Save As/x-drive/GOEGLAB/gg102/Lab SCTN_
Additionally, groups should ensure that each group member has a digital copy of
the Excel group audit table file (email file to group members or save on data pin)
as each group member will need to populate the table with their personal data and
complete the audit on their own for the individual component of this assignment.
