HALL OF FAMER ARRIVES IN CAMP…Mariners legend Edgar Martinez was among four players
elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the BBWAA as part of the Class of 2019…Edgar
has joined Mariners camp for a few days; he is in his first season as the club’s Organization Hitting
Advisor after serving as the Major League hitting coach for four season (2015-18)…Edgar becomes
the 2nd Mariner to be elected to the Hall of Fame – joining 2016 inductee Ken Griffey Jr. – and
joins Mariano Rivera, Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina in being elected through the BBWAA ballot,
as well as Harold Baines and Lee Smith, who were voted in by the Today’s Game Era committee, in
this year’s class…in his 10th, and final, year on the ballot, Edgar received 85.4% (363x425) of the
vote…this year’s induction will take place on Sunday, July 21 at the National Baseball Hall of Fame
and Museum in Cooperstown, NY…Edgar spent his entire 18-year Major League career with the
Mariners, earning seven All-Star Game selections, two batting titles, five Silver Sluggers and five
Outstanding Designated Hitter Awards, as well as the 2004 Roberto Clemente Award.
GOODBYE BASEBALL…the Mariners have belted 8 home runs this spring, tied for 3rd-most in the

(11) and San Francisco (10)…of the club’s 36 runs scored this spring, 15 have come via home runs…
eight different Mariners have homered so far this spring: Mitch Haniger, Shed Long, Domingo
Santana, Kyle Lewis, Ian Miller, Jake Fraley, Chris Mariscal and Daniel Vogelbach…last spring,
Vogelbach tied with 3 others for the Spring Training lead with 7 home runs (also: Yonder Alonso-

KILLER BEES…the Mariners will play a “B” game against the NC Dinos of the KBO on Field 1 tomorrow
at 10:00 am MT…Wade LeBlanc is scheduled to start the “B” game for the Mariners and will be
followed by Nabil Crismatt, Jorgan Cavanerio, Dan Altavilla, Jack Anderson and Tayler Scott.
2019 JAPAN OPENING SERIES…the Mariners will open the 2019 regular season in Tokyo, Japan
on March 20-21 against the Oakland Athletics…the two-game 2019 Japan Opening Series at the
Tokyo Dome will be “road” games for the Mariners…the Mariners will travel from Arizona to Tokyo on
Thursday, March 14…the trip will begin with two exhibition games vs. Nippon Professional Baseball
teams on Sunday, March 17 and Monday, March 18…the Mariners will begin the regular season on
March 20 at 6:35 pm in Tokyo (2:35 am in Seattle) and will fly back to Seattle following the game on
March 21 (6:35 pm in Japan/2:35 am in Seattle)…this will mark the 5th time that the Major League
Baseball regular season has opened with a two-game series in Japan (last: 2012, SEA vs. OAK).
T-MOBILE PARK…the Mariners and T-Mobile announced in December that the home field of
the Mariners will be known as T-Mobile Park for the next 25 years…the process of incorporating
T-Mobile branding assets throughout the ballpark will take place over the next several weeks…much
of the work is expected to be completed by Opening Day on March 28 when the Mariners host the
Boston Red Sox.
HEY BOOTH, AS YOU KNOW…Edgar Martinez, who spent his entire 18-year career with the
Mariners, and Harold Baines, who spent 14 of his 22 years in the Majors with the White Sox, are
both a part of the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019…BUT DID YOU KNOW?…that Martinez and
Baines both rank in the top-3 among most appearances as a designated hitter?…Baines ranks
2nd, having appeared in 1,643 games as a DH, while Martinez ranks 3rd with 1,403 appearances
