Adriatic Acting Academy

International summer acting school in Croatia for professionals,
teachers, students and aspiring amateurs from June 22nd to 29th 2019

Join an international group of teachers and actors for an inspirational seven days adventure
in the beautiful Adriatic town of Skradin!

During the course, you will explore a unique approach to developing on-stage characters,
perfected by experienced practitioners and teachers with academic backgrounds.

Our method is an omnipotent toolkit for the most important acting task: to establish,
maintain and leave the on-stage character.

The course will be primarily in English and offers full board and accommodation as well as
quality leisure time. Enjoy culture, sun, sea, exquisite wines and food as well as excursions in
one of Europe’s most attractive corners famous for the Game of Thrones scenery as well!

The summer school is open to actors interested in developing their professional skills,
students of acting and performers of all kinds, who wish to learn an effective, time saving
method of building a character which everyone can use throughout his or her career.

So it doesn’t really matter whether you are a professional performer or aspiring amateur,
teacher or a student, you will be able to choose the direction that best suits your needs in
collaboration with the course teachers and then work individually or in groups.

Dynamic, introvert, silent, voluble – in which ever direction the text leads you, the tools and
ideas you will learn will enable you to instantly identify and calibrate the appropriate
characterization. Our experienced teachers combine up-to-date insights from
psychological science and psycho-physical exercises with traditional methods like
Stanislavsky's ‘System‘, acting techniques of Mikhail Chekhov and others.

All this is transformed into ready-made practical solutions for every actor working on
developing a role. Our method does not negate others, it gives them a new perspective.

Our school is unique for bringing together teachers from both the scientific (psychology),
and artistic (acting, directing and playwriting) background, combining the best of both
worlds to offer up-to-date acting instruction that can give your work an edge and get you
noticed on stage, on film or in an audition.

Special attention will be devoted not only to the process of entering into the character but
also on exiting it: minimizing psychological and physical stress by developing ways to
control your psychological energy efficiently, thereby leaving you able to deliver a character
with the exact intensity needed. Having acquired our method, you will discover that it is
applicable to every challenge of performing on stage: be it maintaining an accent, singing,
positioning yourself appropriately, coping with the unexpected or simply keeping still.

During the course, characters will be created and developed on the basis of existing texts
(Shakespeare, Chekhov, Ibsen, etc.), through devised text or even with no text at all! The
course will be held in English, but everyone will be free to use the language of their choice
for practical sessions to work on his or her character, along with an accent or way of talk.
Balance of work & fun!

Hard work deserves rewards and so the summer school will combine top educational
instruction with the delights of Adriatic and the chance to enjoy world-renowned Croatian
wines, food and cultural sites like National Park Krka and nearby Šibenik, whose St.
Jakob’s cathedral is on the UNESCO world heritage list, as well as the fortress of St. Nichols.
Šibenik was also a shooting location for The Game of Thrones television series in Season 5.

Our summer school lasts for seven days, during which you will learn how to apply our
method to any dramatic genre, working from established texts or developing your own
written material. Practical classes will be held in the morning (10 am to 13 pm) and in the
evening (20 to 21 pm), leaving afternoons free for relaxing, sunbathing or swimming,
working on individual projects and exploring the surroundings of beautiful Skradin.

Evenings are reserved for relaxation in official Adriatic Acting Academy Club which offers
selected drinks & cocktails and music by your choice! The school will end with a public
performance, giving you the chance to put into practice all you have learned!

Aleksandra Demše is a Croatian academic actress and puppeteer who

devoted significant period of her career to theater pedagogy as well as to
creating original acting projects which are strongly based on the art of
building a stage character. She performed in a play ‘Unterstadt‘ (‘Downtown’),
the most awarded play in Croatia in 2012 according to the choice of theater
colleagues as well as audience.

Berislav Cimerman is a one of the leading Croatian expert in a field of actors’ education
with a university level teaching experience, and one of just a handful of psychologist in the
world with a significant creative role in a theater as well (play writer, drama pedagogue,
director and producer). He introduced the original system of actors' education which
combines the best from both worlds, scientific and artistic. His approach of teaching is
carefully designed to maximize creative efforts of the students with a minimum risk of
failure or psychical of physical injury.

PARTICIPATION FEE

Student package: 800,- EUR per person (includes access to all lectures and exercises, full
board and lodging in hostel room 3*** /2 to 4 persons per room/ from June 22 nd to 29th 2018,
including entrance to National Park Krka and one trip to Šibenik).

Professional package: 1.ooo,- EUR per person (includes access to all lectures and exercises,
full board and lodging in a single room 4**** /private accommodation/ from June 22 nd to
29th 2018, including entrance to National Park Krka and one trip to Šibenik).

Amount of 300 EUR (for both Student and Professional package) of participation fee is to
be paid in advance via Pay Pal invoice. Please provide us with an e-mail address on

possible by PayPal account via our web site with VISA, American Express, Master Card and
Maestro card. The rest of the amount is to be paid while checking in on 22nd of June 2019.

The Adriatic Acting Academy first edition (Skradin, Croatia) has been organized by the
tourist agency Active destination d.o.o., Skradin and artistic association ABCD Troupe with
a help of Skradin Tourist Board.
 How to get to Skradin?

SKRADIN is situated near the Adriatic coast of Croatia, by the river Krka and at the entrance
to the Krka National Park. It is positioned roughly halfway between the historic cities of Zadar
and Split.
