Introduction: When the students enter the classroom, there will be a question on the board for
them to answer in their daily journals. Journals are placed on the student’s desks
before class begins, and the students are responsible for putting them back on the
shelves after they are finished. Entries are read by me during group time for me to
add comments and ensure they have been completed correctly.

Question - What continent is Egypt located on?

This will tie into the fact that we will be discussing different countries, and will make
them excited to know what the lesson is going to be about.

Daily Reviews: For our daily review, I will have the students take a short quiz on Quizlet (not for
grading purposes) to collect data of information they have absorbed from prior
learning. [NEPF 1, Learning Purpose and Connections]

Daily Objective: To present the objective of the lesson, we will begin with a KWL chart put together
with the class as a whole. Students will individually volunteer to provide an
additional piece if prior and expected knowledge to the chart.

Concept and Skill 1. In this lesson, the students will be achieving extended thinking. Using a
Development and powerpoint or Pecha Kucha planner, I will demonstrate the importance of
Application: learning about different cultures around the world and the children’s day to
day lives. [NEPF 2, Learning Tasks and Cognitive Demands]
2. Students will be instructed to take notes of questions they come up with to
ask at the end of the Pecha Kucha for a detailed classroom discussion.

Guided Practice After the PowerPoint/Pecha Kucha is completed, the discussion will be held in
(Teacher led): the classroom with students raising their hands and asking their questions. The
other student’s will have an opportunity to try and answer the questions
themselves, based on prior knowledge, and if no one volunteers to answer I will
step in.

Group Practice (Whole There will be small groups created at the beginning of the lesson. Throughout the
class or small groups): lesson, the groups will randomly participate in Kahoot activities or educational
games where they need to work together to get a better understanding and answer
the questions correctly. [NEPF 3, Engagement]

Independent Practice The students will have time throughout the week to talk to their parents about
(Alone): where their family is from and then work to make flags of that countries origin.
Students will present them individually to the class, and then all flags will be put
together to make a banner that will be hung in the classroom.

The students will be given a craft bin with assorted markers, paper, images,
scissors, glue, and a ruler to use in crafting their flag banner.

Homework 1. Talk to their parents about where their family tree stems from.
Assignments: 2. Worksheet on comparisons between countries and related information.

Closure: Complete the L portion of the KWL chart of what we have learned in our lesson.
Cover any additional questions the students may have.
