1. Scope & Objective of the Course: The students should be able to learn Employment of
scientific methods of analysis to provide decision makers with quantitative basis for making
decisions regarding systems under their control.

Enabling Objectives. Participants should be able to:-

(a) Appreciate the problems amenable to solution by OR.

(b) Identify various decision-making situations.

(c) Identify OR techniques to be applied for various situations.

(d) Understand steps involved in solving OR problems.

Learning Objectives. Participants should be able to:-

(a) Understand the growth of OR and historical perspective.

(d) Formulate basic LP problems.

2. Terminal Objectives: The students should be able to:-

• Exploit MS Excel and related computer packages to solve OR problems as applicable


• Formulate and solve problems using techniques covered during the module
• Make effective use of network techniques
• Appreciate the use of Game Theory to analyse conflict situations under conditions of
uncertainty
• Understand modelling concepts
• Interact and assist OR experts to formulate complex problems
