Collin Hunter Dream Job 1/31/19

My dream job is to be sports information director for a college. A sports information

director (SID) is usually the middle man for a school’s athletics and the public. They handle

things like press conferences and press releases. SIDs will compile every sport at their school’s

statistics. They then take this information and send out to places like the league or conference,

media outlets (i.e. school website or social media), or even into media guides. SIDs are also in

charge of the school’s website and oversee everything being added. They also collet players

biographical information and input into their teams link on the website and into gameday media

guides. Sports Information Directors usually get a bachelor’s degree in communication and/or

sport management and class work in public relations. You will also see people add in extensive

marketing classwork. (Angst, 2018)

According to this article the new SID previously worked as director of media relations

and director of operations for different sports. This goes to show that a major in communications

is resourceful as she oversaw media relations. Also, in my Intro to Sport class we talked about

how to handle media in press conferences and interviews. In the future I can attempt to also

major in communications along with sport management. Also, I can take data analysis classes

and sports a statistics class. (Plus Media Solutions, 2018)

The average pay sports information director is $70000. The pay varies from interns at

$11,000 or high-end colleges or experienced Sis at $137,000. (Zip Recruiter, 2019) The average

weekly pay is $1,362. At the low end its $200 and at the high end its $2600. (Zip Recruiter,

2019) Starting off the money will go directly to necessities and as I work my way up I will put

money towards my family and my parents.
