My dream job is to become the General Manager, working for the organization the New
England Patriots. As the General Manager of an NFL organization is a demanding yet rewarding
job to have. The General Manager is the highest standing employee in an NFL front office. Some
of my duties as the General Manager would include hiring the head coach, building the
department staff, creating a scouting rubric to scout college players, and to compile the roster
within the salary cap restrictions. The General Manager gets much of the credit or the blame for
the work they do in the front office and is usually a position gotten after high education and years
in industry (Thelen, 2013). The education level required to be a professional sports general
manager is typically through earning a bachelors’ degree in college (Torrance, n.d.). Most sports
organizations require at least a bachelor’s degree with experience similar to an assistant manager,
My current level of education that I have is a high school diploma in addition to work and
situational experience. I am also in college and working towards a higher education and my
future dream job as a general manager. During my time at college I plan on getting a bachelor’s
degree in Sport Management and get a master’s degree, a Master’s in Business Administration.
By doing this I would go above the minimum expectations for my desired job and increase the
chance of success. In addition to earning a high education level I am going to take business and
sport classes that will help prepare me and get me ready, and also allow me to start taking
masters classes during senior year. I will also get internship and work experience while at school
to prepare me for the workplace right out of college. I think by getting both degrees along with
work experience will prepare me for the necessary jobs and tasks of a professional sport’s
general manager.

Matthew Cahalin Dream Job Assignment 28 January 2020
A professional sports job, especially the highest member of the front office demands a lot
of hard tasks and responsibilities, but also are rewarded very highly. The general manager is
usually the highest paid front office member. An average hourly pay for a NFL general manager
is about 720,000, which is an extreme amount of money. Then using that number to find the
average annual salary for the general manager, it is about 1 – 3 million dollars per year (Dunlap,
2013). With all that money coming in each year, I will have to spend and manage it wisely in
order have financial stability in the future. I will start by putting a third of each paycheck in
savings to work towards a future and to have in case of emergency funds. I will then spend an
additional sixth of the money on investments in real estate and stocks. After I set aside all money
for assets, I will use money to spend on monthly expenses and daily life (Amaradio, 2020). My
dream job is to work towards becoming a professional sports general manager, specifically in the
NFL. My current education and things I do now will impact my future as a work towards a
dream job.
