(The condition of MTs Nurul Huda, when the teacher of Al Quran Hadist is coming

to the class)
Mrs. Parmi : Students. Don’t make any noisy! You’re teenagers but your
attitude is just like playgroup students.
(All students keep silent, after that Sri comes in hurry. she is from the rest room)
Sri : Sorry, mam. I come late.
Mrs. Parmi : Wait, wait! Who lets you sit down? Don’t you know what time it is?
It’s time to study. Instead you have gone.
Sri : But, I was from the rest room, mam!
Eko : Sorry, mam.
It’s better to continue the material. Please, don’t be angry more
with Sri.
(All Eko’s friends support him)
Mrs. Parmi : Shut up!!!
Sri, sit down. Now, open your book page 417 and read it.
(Mrs. Parmi sits down and read a magazine)
Mrs. Parmi : Finish? You’ve understood with the material, right?
Now, do the assignment in a piece of paper and submit it 5
minutes before the class’s over!
Nur : But you haven’t explained yet about the material.
Intan : So, how can we do this assignment?
Mrs. Parmi : How dare you!
This is my way in teaching you. Like or not, you have to obey my
rule.
Wati : if like this, no chance we are getting smarter in Al Quran Hadist.
It’s more difficult than English.
Mrs. Parmi : Wow wow wow, don’t make it same with the English!
English has no advantages than Al Quran Hadist.
(Bell is ringing 3 times as a signal that the class is over)
Mrs. Parmi : Ach… I don’t want more debate with you.
The important one, you must do all of the assignment in the book.
Assalamu’alaikum.
(All students sreamed, huuuuuu…)
Eko : What a mad teacher!
Nur : By the way, if it’s compared with with the English lesson, what do
you think?
Sri : In my opinion, the lesson of Al Quran Hadist and English are
equally difficult. But Mrs. Parmi is mad as a teacher. She teaches
with her own willing, always give so many tasks and never explain

the material in detail. While, Miss Mae, she is very good in
teaching. But English is still difficult.
Intan : For me, I dislike English lesson. English is not important. (Miss Mae
enter the classroom and she listens Intan’s opinion about English)

Miss Mae : Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

Students : Wa’alaikumsalam Wr. Wb.
Miss Mae : Good afternoon, students.
Students : (Answer with no spirit) Good afternoon, miss.
Miss Mae : Well. Today I’m go to teach you about descriptive text. Any
homework for the previous material?
Students : No, miss.
Miss Mae : Ok. Actually, what is descriptive text? Anybody knows about it?
(No one answers. All students keep silent but they still focus on the material
presented by Miss Mae.
Miss Mae : No one? No problem.
(Miss Mae takes out a doll of Upin for the game)
Wati : Uhm, a doll of Upin. Your favorite, Sri! Hahahaha
Eko : Betul betul betul
Nur : Miss, what will you do? Why do you bring the doll of Upin?
Miss Mae : Well. This is our material today, descriptive text.
One of the ways is by using this doll.
Intan : It’s interesting, but English is still difficult and annoying.
Nur : Yach. My parents said no need to study English, because of what
my friends?
Students : English won’t be used afterlife.
Sri : So, we don’t have to study English more. Arabic is enough.
Nur : But English is fun, too.
Miss Mae : Wait a moment. Why do you talk about the English? Is my way of
teaching English incorrect? Sekar?
Sekar : No, miss. It’s okay. We don’t talk about the way of your teaching,
miss but about the English lesson itself.
Wati : Yes, miss. I heard that English is the language of Jewish.
Intan : That’s right. And I also heard that English is the language of
colonialist, miss.
Miss Mae : You’re so funny. Who said like that?
Sekar : My parents said it. So they don’t ask me to study English.
Miss Mae : How about you, Intan?
Intan : Me? (looks confused)

2
Yach. I watch some news in the TV. There’s a news which said it,
mam. So, I just believe it. (Miss Mae listens to the Intan’s opinion)
Miss Mae : And you, Wati?
Wati : I just (ikut-ikutan), mam. We all are best friend, right guys?
(All Wati’s friend reply with their nods)
Students : No
Eko : Who wanna be your friend? A silly thing.
Sri : I want to be your best friend. Be calm, Wat!
Miss Mae : Enough everybody. Just make it simple. Please join my class first.
Then it’s up to you to think or say anything about my class. Agree?
Deal? Or no deal?
Sekar : And if we still dislike the English, miss?
Students : Yes miss, how?
Miss Mae : You may not join my class for two meetings. Agree?
(All students smile as a signal of agreement)
Intan : That’s a good idea. OK, … deal, miss.
Miss Mae : Eits, that’s if I don’t success in teaching you. If I success, I ask you
to change your mindset and your view about English. And you
must enjoy English lesson. Agree?
Students : Agree, miss!
Miss Mae : Ok. Before I explain our material today, I want you know that
English is very important for us, for your future. We can use our
ability of English to reach our dreams and also to find the job.
Sri : What do you mean, miss?
Eko : Uh… Poor you are, Sri? Don’t you understand?
Sri : So, what does Miss Mae mean? Do you know, Eko?
Eko : Of course not. I don’t understand at all.
Students : Huuuu…..
Nur : You just pretend to know. Just continue, miss!
Miss Mae : Ok. Let me continue. English can help our activity of our jobs in the
future.
Do you ever hear that many companies in Indonesia, include
Kudus, give requirement for their staffs to be active and good in
English? Of course, they who are active and good in English have
higher position than others who are not active and good in English.
Let me give you the real example. Eko. Do you like playing play
station?
Eko : Exactly, miss. That’s my hobby.

3
Nur : There’s no relationship between this and our subject.
Miss Mae : Who says there’s no relationship?
This is my way to teach you all about descriptive text.
Eko : What do you mean, Miss?
Miss Mae : You are just able to explain about the doll of Upin, right.
That’s one of the example of descriptive text whose function
“To describe a particular person, place or thing.”
Nur : So it means that descriptive text is just same with report, Miss?
Miss Mae : Good question, Nur.
Descriptive text and report have the almost similar function. Both
describe something. The difference is in amount of the thing.
Descriptive text describes specific thing while report describes
general thing.
Wait : The example, Miss?
Miss Mae : Before I give you the example, anybody wants to try to give the
example?
Nur : Me, Miss!
Miss Mae : Yes, Nur. Please!
Nur : According to Miss Mae’s explanation before, the example is just
like this.
When we talk about jasmine, it means that we talks about
descriptive text. But, when we talk about flowers, it means that we
talk about report. Is it right, Miss?
Miss Mae : That’s right. Good answer. Thanks, Nur!
So descriptive text and report are like hipernim and hiponim in
Indonesian, general thing and specific thing. Is it clear for you?
Students : Clear, Miss!
Miss Mae : Good. Intan, why are you quiet? It’s clear for you or not?
(Intan is still quiet)
Ok, now anybody knows about generic structure of descriptive
text?
Intan : No one, Miss!
Miss Mae : Well, the generic structure of descriptive text consists of two,
identification and description.
Eko : What are those, Miss?
Sekar : Miss, I’ll try to answer Eko’s question.
Miss Mae : Please, Sekar!

4
Sekar : Identification defines what we are describing while in description
we provide the kinds, features, behaviors if living thing and usage
if it’s not a living thing, etc.
Miss Mae : Excellent, Sekar!
Students : I like it. (hahaha)
(Miss Mae laughs also)
Miss Mae : Ok, ok.
I will give you the example. When we want to describe a rose, so
the identification will be “Rose is a kind of beautiful flower”. That’s
for the opening. Then it will be followed by the kinds, the features,
where it grows etc.
Students : Aaaa…. See…
(all students answer together, except Eko. He’s just operating his HP)
Miss Mae : Eko, have you finished playing your cell phone?
(Eko is surprised and answer nervously)
Eko : Hehe… You know it, Miss!
Finished, Miss!
Miss Mae : If you have finished, come forward!
Eko : Huh? What are you going to do to me, Miss? You don’t want to
punish me, right? Forgive me, Miss. Please!
Miss Mae : Just come forward first!
Students : Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu…….
Wati : Poor you, Ko!
Eko : Iiich… what’s the matter you guys?
(Eko comes forward slowly)
Eko : Don’t give me a punishment, Miss!
Miss Mae : Take your cell phone out!
Intan : Just seize it, Miss!
(all other students are laughing)
Eko : Please Miss, don’t seize it. You’re beautiful if you don’t seize it.
(Eko tries to seduce Miss Mae in order to not seize his phone)
