EXPRESSING PREFERENCES
THE USES OF NEITHER AND EITHER

Rules to remember when using both, neither or either.

Both = this AND that
Either = this OR that
Neither = NOT this and NOT that.

Both is used with 'and'

"Emma and Megan both went to the party."
“Cris and Michael both go to the gym every day”

We don't usually use this with a negative sentence, instead we use neither
e.g.
"Both of us don't go to the gym regularly." WRONG.
"Neither of us go to the gym regularly." MUCH BETTER!

Either is used with 'or' e.g.

"Do you want either chocolate or crisps?"
“I have already paid, either if you eat or not.

We often use neither with 'nor', although this is quite formal.

"Neither Nancy nor Megan worked for the TESJO during the summer."

"I don’t want neither chocolate nor crisps." WRONG.

We cannot have a double negative!

NOW IS YOUR TURN!!!

With the information provided by your classmate, you have to write about the things
you have or have not in common, check the uses above. Good luck!! (180 words)
