i) Draw the construction of a DC machine and derive the emf equation of a
DC Generator. (10)
ii) A four – pole generator with wave wound armature has 51 slots, each

8 having 24 conductors per slot. The flux per pole is 0.01 wb. At what speed
must the armature rotate to give an induced emf of 250V? What will be the
voltage developed, if the winding is lap-connected and the armature rotates at
the same speed? (6)

i) With a neat diagram, explain the working of three point starter. (8)
ii) The armature winding of a 200V, four pole, series motor is lap-connected.
There are 280 slots and each slot has 4 conductors. The current is 45A and the CO3 K2

flux per pole is 18mwb. The field resistance is 0.3Ω, armature resistance 0.5Ω
and the total iron and friction lass is 800W. The pulley diameter is 0.41m.
Find the pull in Newton at the rim of the pulley. (8)
