The Proud Butterfly
Once there was a beautiful, shiny and colourful butterfly. She was flitting from one flower to another.
Suddenly, she saw a baby elephant, Ella, coming down the path.
She flew to the baby elephant and sat on her ear. “Who are you? Where are you going?” asked
Ella. “Do you want to play with me?”
The proud butterfly proudly replied, “My name is Flappy. I am the most beautiful of all butterflies.”
“I am glad to meet you,” said Ella.
“You are so large! Your body is so heavy while I am delicate and light. People like my colourful
wings. I can fly anywhere with these wings,” Flappy said proudly.
“Yes, I am a large animal. You are very beautiful but you should not be so proud of your beauty,”
said Ella calmly. “Let’s become friends.”
“No, I cannot become your friend.
We are so different from each other,” Flappy said loudly. “You have four legs but I have six. You
have a long trunk and I have something like that too. I use it to suck nectar from the flowers. You
cannot do that.”
Just then a strong wind blew and Flappy could not keep her balance. She was flown away in the
wind. Ella stood firmly on ground and thought, “I can see how pride has a fall.”
