CROWN dealer.
This manual describes the sit-down rider pallet trucks RT 3020 and 3030. These
trucks are designed solely to receive, lift, and transport palletised goods.
Only operate the truck within the operating and environmental conditions de-
fined in this manual.
DANGER
It is forbidden to operate the truck on public roads.
The truck is not authorised for use on public roads.
Only operate the truck on private premises, e.g., a
factory warehouse.
DANGER
Risk of Explosion!
It is forbidden to operate the truck in areas where
there is a risk of explosion
● Serious accidents may result
The truck is not equipped for use in areas where there is a risk of explosion.
Never operate the truck in areas designated to be at risk.
Only when both conditions are satisfied can maintenance work be carried out
by the operator.
You cannot stop the truck (> 900 kg) with your
arms or legs, no matter how slowly the truck is
moving.

As the battery charge level continues to fall, the maximum travel and lift speeds
are accordingly reduced by the truck’s control system until travelling and lifting
are fully inhibited.
Hour Meter
The hour meter indicates the truck’s service hours: the time during which the
travel and/or lift functions are activated. The “Hour Glass” symbol flashes when
the hour meter is active. The hour meter has a 5-digit display to indicate the
number of full hours completed.
NOTE
When replacing the indicator make sure that the exist-
ing service hour reading is transferred to the new in-
strument.
General
You must read the Safety section prior to powering up the truck. It contains a
summary of the main points for safe operation. Observe all the warning labels
attached to the truck.
WARNING
Before operating the truck, carry out the daily
inspection in accordance with tables 1 - 3 on
pages 5-2 - 5-4.
Operator Position
Position yourself comfortably in the truck. Make sure that all the controls (steering
wheel, pedals and switches) can be applied easily and safely. To assist, the
seat and the accelerator pedal are adjustable.
Seat Adjustments
Seat pad setting
Pull the release lever upwards (see
picture below).
The seat pad can be set to one of
three different heights at the front Longitudinal Setting
(see upper picture). The surface can
be either flat or inclined backwards
depending on the setting. Weight Adjustment
Backrest Inclination
Turn the control knob to adjust the
backrest inclination (see picture
below).
Backrest
Longitudinal Setting Inclination
Turn the release lever anti-clockwise
until it reaches the stop (approx. one Seat Pad Setting
quarter turn, see upper picture).
The seat contains a switch which inhibits all truck functions and applies the
brakes when you leave the seat.
Key Switch
The key switch is used to switch the
truck on / off.
Do not activate any controls while
powering up!
Travel
Travel Direction, Definition
The following diagram illustrates the travel direction:
Right
Front Rear
Forward Reverse
Left
Steering
When the steering wheel is moved to the right (clockwise) in forward motion,
the truck turns to the right.
DANGER!
Be careful turning
while travelling forks
first.
The chassis will swing
wide in the opposite
direction!
This can result in fatal
injuries to anybody
standing at the side.
● Make sure you have clearance, and watch out
for people in the area.
RT 3030
Accelerator Pedal
The further you depress the pedal,
the faster the truck will travel.
RT 3020 RT 3030
● Mechanical braking
Release Braking
When you release the accelerator pedal, braking occurs via the traction motor.
Inversion Braking
While travelling, activating the travel direction switch to produce travel in the
opposite direction will cause electric motor braking to occur.
To avoid driving in the opposite direction, take your foot off the accelerator
pedal when the truck has come to a complete stop.
The brake acts as a parking brake because it is always applied when the safety
switch is not depressed, and when the truck is switched off.
RT 3030
If you use the truck more than 8 hours a day or in cold or dusty environments,
a suitably adapted maintenance schedule will increase the useful life and per-
formance of the truck. In this case, contact Crown for further details.
DANGER
Do not carry out maintenance unless you have
been trained and authorised by the owner (see
section 2, Safety).
Accidents with serious or fatal injuries could
result
● Before carrying out any maintenance and repair
work, remove the key, depress the Emergency
Disconnect button, disconnect the battery from
the truck.
Component Action
Battery connector Check for damage. Check contacts for any signs of
burning.
Wheels / load wheels Check tyres for wear and for any foreign bodies.
Remove any foreign bodies found.
*) Do not use high pressure cleaners and/or solvents to clean the truck.
Do not use metal brushes.
DANGER
Risk of accidents!
Carry out the test drive in an open area free of
obstacles.
● If you discover any irregularity, stop the truck
immediately and inform your supervisor.
Component Action
Key Switch Turn on the key switch and check the operation of
the multifunction indicator.
Travel Functions Move the truck in both directions, slowly at first and
then at full speed.
Check the automatic speed reduction at steering
angle > 10°.
Check the operation of the travel speed switch
fast / slow.

These require specialist expertise and must not be performed by the operator,
but by a qualified engineer with reference to the latest version of the Mainte-
nance Manual.
DANGER
Risk of accidents!
Improper and faulty maintenance can lead to mal-
functioning of safety-critical components such as
brakes and steering.
Your Crown dealer is prepared to carry out periodic maintenance and inspec-
tions for you. If you wish to carry out maintenance/inspections yourself, Crown
can train your personnel accordingly. Ask for details.
The charger must be suitable for the battery voltage and capacity.
Make sure the key is removed when connecting / disconnecting the battery
connector.
● Pull the battery connector and connect it to the charger.
Ensure proper connection!

CAUTION
You must remove the battery before transport-
ing the truck.
● This will prevent a possible leakage of battery
acid in the truck and resulting material or per-
sonal damage.

with forks of standard length: 850 kg, with forks of 2350 mm length: 1000 kg.
DANGER
Make sure the capacity of the crane and the lift-
ing device is sufficient.
● If a crane or truck tips or a load falls, fatal inju-
ries can result.

RT 3020: If the truck is without power supply, the brake is applied to the drive
wheel.
● Lift the truck (at the front part) approximately 20 mm off the
floor. The load wheels remain on the floor during the procedure.
CAUTION
The drive wheel must be lifted from the floor!
● Otherwise the truck could be damaged.
● Pull the truck slowly straight forward (as indicated by the black
arrow).
● Place a wooden block under the forks and lower the truck onto it (4).
DANGER
Always support a raised truck with wooden
blocks or other appropriate equipment to relieve
the jack.
Never reach your hands or other parts of your
body under the truck before it has been sup-
ported, or while jacking the truck up!
● Every 3 months, connect the battery, carry out the daily in-
spection (tables 1 - 3 on pages 5-2 - 5-4) and operate all the
truck functions. Finally, disconnect the battery again.
Re-commissioning
To re-commission the truck, proceed as follows:
● Remove any anti-corrosion film that may have been applied*).
● Jack up the truck, remove the wooden blocks, lower the truck.

In the event of a truck malfunction or an operator mistake, the red LED on the
multifunction display (see page 3-7) flashes. The spanner symbol is displayed
at the same time, together with the error message replacing the hour meter.
The error message consists of “AL” + two-digit error code, e.g. “AL 32”.
DANGER
Troubleshooting and repairs may only be car-
ried out by trained and authorised personnel
in accordance with the Maintenance Manual.
You can endanger or even fatally injure yourself
and/or others by carrying out improper mainte-
nance.
● Do not attempt to rectify the fault yourself.
Inform your supervisor immediately so that
the fault can be rectified by a trained and
authorised engineer.
Please do not simply release them into the environment but act responsibly:
