HIKING AND TREKKING

OVERVIEW

Hiking is a natural exercise that promotes physical fitness, requires no special equipment which
makes it economical and convenient. It is an aerobic activity wherein you burn more calories walking
than running. There is also no special strain because the hiker can walk as far as he wants, unless he
walks among mountains and hills. In simpler terms, hiking can be defined as walking for recreational
purposes. In hiking, the journey is more important than the “destination”. Most hiking hours range from
2 to 8 hours of round trip. Easy walks and hikes, moderate hikes, challenging hikes, and multi-day hikes
are some of the types of hiking.

Trekking is an activity in which people take day-long hiking trips through rural, often rugged
territories. Trekkers engage in longer trips through entire regions of the world using trekking as a way of
getting from one place to another. It can also be incorporated with other outdoor sports, such as rock
climbing or backpacking. In Nepal, trekking is the most widespread activity for tourists, due to its
privilege of being home to the Himalayas. There are different ways to do a trek and the trekking culture
often varies from country to country. According to the Great Nepal travels and Tours, there are three
types of trekking: Camping trek, Tea House trek, and Guide and Porter trek.
