HIKING

HIKING

• is a healthy low-impact way to exercise and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you
are looking to challenge yourself, explore cultural landmarks, or just ‘get away
from it all’
• walking in nature as a recreational activity. Especially among those with
sedentary occupations, hiking is a natural exercise that promotes physical
fitness, is economical and convenient, and requires no special equipment.
Because hikers can walk as far as they want, there is no physical strain unless
they walk among hills or mountains.
THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIKING

• Day Hiking
• Summit Hiking
• Long Distance Hiking
DAY HIKING

• As is apparent by the name, day hiking refers to a hike that does

not exceed daylight hours. It can be anything from a simple walk in
a natural environment, such as an urban nature park, to a hike
across a small mountain trail with hikers returning as the sun goes
down. It can also include a complete day trip into the wild with a
guide in tow.
SUMMIT HIKING

• Summit hiking is considered to be the most rewarding

hikes a person can take. As the name implies, it involves
surmounting the summit or peak of a mountain, an
objective that is as challenging as it is fulfilling.
LONG-DISTANCE HIKING

• Time has a way of putting things into perspective, something which long-
distance hikers are well aware of. Contrary to popular belief, they are not like
backpackers. A long-distance hike can take weeks and even a couple of
months to traverse. It is an exercise in perseverance that breaks physical and
mental limitations for those who can endure it.
• Unlike a day trip, you cannot just turn around and head home when the sun
starts to set. A long-distance hike pits you against nature for
TYPES OF HIKERS

• The Day Hiker • Fast and Light Hikers

• The Overnight Hiker • Trail Runners
• The Weekend Hiker • Thru- Hikers
• The Distance Hikers
• Hunters, Fishermen and
Photographers
THE DAY HIKER

• Pretty much everyone falls into this category from time to time,
but for some, this is the bread-and-butter of the outdoors. They’ll
be seen wearing a small pack, shorts, a T-shirt and baseball hat.
Footwear varies from street shoes to full-blown hiking boots. Most
of the hikes will be within an easy mile or two from the car,
although some day-hikers can put down serious distance before
getting back home for the night.
THE OVERNIGHT HIKERS

• This is a next-step from the day hiker. Usually focused on a

campsite objective, the overnighter can get by with just
minimal camping gear plus a little food and water, but he
or she will often also carry some extra luxuries like the
ingredients for s'mores. Thus, their backpacks are usually
almost as heavy as those out for longer adventures.
THE WEEKEND HIKER

• A two- or three-night trip requires a little more

planning than a simple overnight and also means
cutting back on the luxury items. Most weekend
backpacking trips require each person to carry a 40-
liter or larger pack to fit all the essentials plus food.
DISTANCE HIKER

• More than three nights out and things start to get a

little trickier. Distance hikers aiming for several days
will find solitude far from the trailhead and
experience beautiful places few ever see.
HUNTER, FISHERMEN'S AND
PHOTOGRAPHERS

• These are hikers with an objective in mind. There is

usually a (fun) job to do once camp is set far from
the trailhead. These folks also tend to have
significantly more equipment than other hikers, so
the packs are heavy and miles hard to cover.
FAST AND LIGHT HIKERS

• You're really counting ounces in this group with the

goal of covering huge miles. Fast-and-light hikers
cross genres, tackling adventures like single day car-
to-summit hikes of remote mountain peaks,
adventure races or big mile treks in short times.
TRAIL RUNNERS

• Not really so much hikers as blurs through the

forest, trail runners nonetheless need to carry
calories, water and emergency supplies as they
cover epic distances of up to 100 miles and beyond
in a single go.
THRU-HIKERS

• Bushy beards, worn shoes and a far-off look in the

eye that can only come from spending months
alone in the wilderness, through-hikers are the
nomads of the trail. This type of adventure takes
some serious commitment of time, money and
planning, but the rewards are often spiritual in
scale.
BEAUTIFUL REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GO
HIKING
• Doing Sport Is Always Beneficial
• Being in Touch With Nature
• Discover New Corners
• It is a non-competitive activity
• You will meet new friends
• It is cheap
• Psychological Benefits
DOING SPORT IS ALWAYS BENEFICIAL

• As everyone knows, doing sports is always good

because it burns fats, shape your body and is
beneficial for the cardiovascular system. If walking
is good, hiking, although it is another way to walk, is
much better than a walk. The more slope, the more
kcal will burn.
BEING IN TOUCH WITH THE NATURE

• If you love nature, do not doubt that hiking is the perfect activity
for you. You will be amazed by the natural life, full of natural walks
and waterfalls. You will see leafy vegetation that will make you
forget for a moment the bustle and the gray cement of the city.
And you will breathe fresh air without the pollution of the
industries and the exhaust pipes. Also, if you give enough attention
surely you listen to the joyful song of a bird. And, hopefully, you
may see some animals in the area.
DISCOVER NEW CORNERS

• Each route, each mountain and each path are different worlds.
Discover the wonderful corners away from the view of the
majority, that clear in the middle of the forest, that lonely rock that
you will not hesitate to upload to take a photo. That little pond
with crystalline waters that with some luck has fish. With each new
excursion you will discover beautiful landscapes. Even repeating
route, you will notice things that you had not seen or explore new
corners and roads that will take you to new and wonderful sites.
IT IS NON-COMPETITIVE ACTIVITY
• Apart from being a sport with all the benefits that it
implies. Here there is no competition, rather the opposite,
primacy of fellowship. The one who is in lesser form will
make a small effort not to be left behind and the most
impetuous will do everything so that nobody is left
behind. Hiking is a great way to have a good time with
friends or family. Also, is good for talk relaxed and bond
with our loved ones.
YOU WILL MEET NEW FRIENDS
• As we said before, with the hiking you strengthen
relationships with your own. But not only that, you also
have the possibility of making new relationships with
other hikers. If you are an extroverted person no doubt in
many occasions in which you practice hiking to make new
friends with other lovers of nature like you, take the
opportunity to know your favorite routes and point them
to travel in the future.
IT IS CHEAP
• Maybe if you start hiking and do not have the necessary clothing
and accessories, the initial investment can be high, especially if you
start in winter and cold, because apart from the essentials you will
need a scarf for the neck, a jacket with windbreaks and maybe
more extras. But once the initial investment is made or if you live
in a tropical country with nice weather, perhaps the biggest
expense you have to make is the gasoline to go to the starting
point of the excursion you want to do since if you buy clothes and
footwear made specifically for outdoor sports, they are very
durable material.
PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS

• Walking through nature and breathing clean air helps us to relax

and get away from the stress of the city. Hiking helps you to forget
all the problems, being highly recommended for people suffering
from anxiety, stress or depression. Do not hesitate any longer, and
when you feel overwhelmed, grab your mountain boots, grab your
backpack, prepare a snack and go to a natural place to walk,
disconnect and clear. Your health, your life and yourself will thank
you.
