HOW TO CLIMB A MOUNTAIN?

Good afternoon Kevin, good afternoon class mates. I’m going to talk about how to climb a
mountain. First I would like to say you why I chose to speak about this subject. I think that
climbing mountains is a challenge for yourself. It’s not a race. It is a huge possibility for
knowing yourself and your limits too. Then climbing mountains will teach patience,
persistence and gratitude. It is a beautiful experience to share with your family, friends and
others.
After that, I wanna give you some suggestions before to set out to climb mountains: How
do you prepare? What should you expect?
What do you need to wear? The most important thing that you need is hiking boots, if
possible waterproof hiking boots, hiking socks, waterproof pants, waterproof jacket, hat,
sun glasses.
After we need to pack our rucksack. You should pack to stay safe in the outdoors,
including facing a potential overnight. You need to bring the right amount of water, snacks,
a knife, a flash light, matches, an extra layer of clothing, a first aid kit, supplies to protect
you from the sun, this includes sunscreens, a hat and sunglasses. Take a GPS in case
you get lost too.
Then you need to know some generalities:
A mountain is a natural elevation of the earth’s surface.
The slope is the inclined surface that forms a mountain side.
The summit is the highest point of a mountain.

Types of climbing activities

We have several types of climbing activities. It’s important to know the
difference between hiking, trekking, and mountaineering so that you can choose the right
adventure for you. Many people use the hiking and mountaineering as if they were
synonyms.

Hiking
The easiest of the three is hiking. You walk on well-marked trails of easy to moderate
difficulty, although this depends on where you’re hiking.

These are usually half-day to one-day tours, like these hikes in the Ecuadorian
mountains. The terrain varies from relatively flat to steep. It can be on mountains, along a
coastline and a jungle. As a rule, no technical knowledge is necessary.

If this is your first time hiking, you should choose an easy hike.

Trekking
A trek is like a hike, but longer, more difficult, and a lot more involved. A trek is a typically
two days or more.

Mountaineering
Is in general more physically and technically demanding than hiking or trekking. On the
way to the summit mountaineers will have to deal with rock, ice or mixed ground.

you find a rhythm

Choose a Hiking Route

Start small and choose the right trail for your fitness level.
Select a hike a little shorter than the distance you can normally walk on a level or paved
surface. To estimate the time required to hike the trail, figure a pace of roughly 2-miles per
hour.

Familiarize yourself with the trail.

Once you have selected a trail, obtain a map of the area and review reports and data.
Check the weather. This will give you valuable information on how to dress and what to
pack. If the weather is forecast to be awful, it will give you the chance to change plans
instead of getting surprised on the trail.

Tell someone where you will be.

It’s important that someone not on the hike knows the itinerary and what time to
worry and call for help.
You need to check the weather report

Start slow. You get start very slow- minimum 45 minutes
