Everyone associates Bono with Dublin, the city where he was born in 1960. The death
of his mother when he was only 15 was an event that had a major effect on him. He
became interested in music and began playing in high school, where he also discovered
that he enjoyed singing on stage. It was during this period when one of his friends
nicknamed him “Bono”. The students whom he formed a band in 1976 agreed that he
should be the lead singer. Bono has many influences, including opera, which, his father
